Dwayne Johnson will be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next week in a ceremony recognizing his contributions to the motion picture industry and status as a global box-office powerhouse.
“Not only does Dwayne have a great personality and talent, but he also does a great amount of philanthropic work, which is part of the criteria for earning an immortal spot on the Walk of Fame,” producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies Ana Martinez said in the announcement posted by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
“Everyone loves Dwayne Johnson! We predict that his star will be a very popular one to visit on our famous walk,” she added.
The ceremony will start 11:30 a.m. PT at 6801 Hollywood Blvd., in front of the Hollywood and Highland complex, on Dec. 13.
According to Forbes, “The Rock” was the world’s highest earning actor of 2016 and the second-highest earning actor this year, having netted $65 million. His movies have grossed almost $3 billion at the box office.
Johnson was born in San Francisco and raised in Hawaii. He was a college football player for the University of Miami, where he won a national championship on 1991 Miami Hurricanes team. After graduation, he began training for a career in professional wrestling WWE, where he introduced his ring name, “The Rock.” He is now widely regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time.
The Jumanji star wrote an autobiography in 2000 titled “The Rock Says,” and he established The Rock Foundation in 2006 which aims to enrich the lives of terminally ill children and empower them through physical fitness programs and nutrition initiatives.
