Eddie Murphy in Talks to Star in “Grumpy Old Men” Remake

It was recently announced that New Line Cinema is working on a remake of 1993’s beloved comedy Grumpy Old Men and we are now beginning to find out more details about the project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, comedy legend Eddie Murphy is in talks to star in the movie.

Directed by Donald Petrie, Grumpy Old Men tells a story of two neighbors, played by Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, who are in a feud since childhood. The things get even worse when an attractive female neighbor moves in across the street. If he says yes to the project, Murphy will play either Lemmon or Matthau’s character.

Grumpy Old Men remake will be directed by Tim Story (Ride Along), while John Davis, who produced the original and its sequel, will return in the same role for this project as well. The rest of the cast and the release date for the movie remain unknown.

While Grumpy Old Men wasn’t a hit with the critics, the audience loved the movie and turned it into a box office hit. In 1995, a sequel titled Grumpier Old Men was released to even more negative reviews. Still, the audience once again responded well to the follow-up, and it had similar commercial success like the original.

Eddie Murphy will find himself on familiar ground with Grumpy Old Men remake, since he starred in several similar projects, including Dr. Dolittle and Nutty Professor remakes.
