First Picture of Ruby Rose as Batwoman Revealed

Ruby Rose has made her debut as Batwoman.

The CW and Warner Bros. TV treated fans of Rose and the iconic DC Comics superhero to a first look image of the actress as the superwoman ahead of the Arrowverse crossover event.

The first image of Rose in character was unveiled Tuesday on DC Comics official Twitter account. In the photo, the 32-year-old actress is clad in the iconic black-and-white caped catsuit complete with Kate Kane’s signature red locks and of course the bat insignia emblazoned on her chest.

The standalone Batwoman series is currently in development for the 2019-20 television season at The CW with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schecter at the helm. The official logline for Batwoman reads: “Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”

Rose celebrated her new role in August, writing on Instagram, “The Bat is out of the bag and I am beyond thrilled and honored. I’m also an emotional wreck.. because this is a childhood dream. This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on TV and felt alone and different.

If the project goes to series, Rose will be the first to star as a gay lead character in a live-action superhero TV show.

The three-night DC crossover event kicks off Sunday, December 9.
