Apple TV+ changed the way we look at the space race with their series For All Mankind, and this epic story will soon continue. The alternative history series is officially coming back for its fifth season, and the streamer also ordered its first spin-off Star City.

For All Mankind is the alt-history retelling of the space race, which imagines the world where the Soviets were the first to land the man on the Moon. The space race never ended in this timeline and it went on for decades to come after NASA’s engineers and cosmonauts started taking bigger leaps in an attempt to catch up with the Soviets.

Apple TV+ also ordered a spin-off titled Star City, which will “explore the story from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, the engineers, and the intelligence officers embedded among them in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to propel humanity forward,” according to the streamer’s official synopsis.

For All Mankind co-creators Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi serve as the showrunners of the new spin-off. They were inspired to develop it after their fascination with the Soviet space program grew while they were doing research for For All Mankind.
