Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the cult anime Avatar: The Last Airbender was a long time coming, and its release date is just around the corner. The streaming giant gave us a taste of things to come by dropping the first teaser trailer for this hotly-anticipated series.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is set in a world divided into four nations ruled by different elements: water, earth, fire, or air. They lived in harmony for centuries, with the master of all four elements known as the Avatar keeping the peace between them, but all hell broke loose when the Fire Nation decided to rebel.

After many years of war and carnage, it’s up to the young Air Nomad named Aang to bring peace to the world ravaged by war. He joins forces with his friends Sokka and Katara and embarks on an action-packed quest to take his rightful place as the next Avatar.

Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, and Ian Ousley will lead the series as Aang, Katara, and Sokka. They’ll be joined by Dallas Liu, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Leung, Maria Zhang, Elizabeth Yu, and Lim Kay Siu in supporting roles.

Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender marks the second live-action adaptation of the beloved Nickelodeon anime, and it will premiere on this streaming service sometime next year.
