Oprah Winfrey To Be Honored With Cecil B. DeMille Award At the Golden Globes

Media mogul Oprah Winfrey is set to receive the 2018 Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards.

This honor is history in the making as Winfrey will be the first ever black women to receive the award.

The news were announced by Morgan Freeman, a fellow Cecil B. DeMille honoree during the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Golden Globe 75th Anniversary Special on NBC. President of HFPA, Meher Tanta said:

“The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is delighted to announce Oprah Winfrey as the recipient of the 2018 Cecil B. DeMille Award.  As a global media leader, philanthropist, producer, and actress, she has created an unparalleled connection with people around the world, making her one of the most respected and admired figures today. For generations, Oprah has celebrated strong female characters on and off screen and has been a role model for women and young girls for decades. Holding titles such as Chairman, CEO and Founder, Oprah is one of the most influential women of our time, and this honor is well deserved especially in this 75th anniversary year of the Golden Globe Awards.”

Winfrey will be the 15th woman to receive the awards, with Meryl Streep being the 14th and last year’s winner. She will also be the fourth person of color to receive the award after Sidney Potier (1982), Freeman (2012) and Denzel Washington (2016).

It seems that after hosting The Oprah Winfrey Show 25 years, serving as chairman and CEP of her own cable network, founding O, The Oprah Magazine and overseeing Harpo Films, there isn’t anything she can’t do.

Congratulation Oprah!
