Warner Bros. has picked Robert Pattison as the superhero lead in the forthcoming Batman film.
Pattison edged out another frontrunner for the role – Nicholas Hoult – after the two were screen tested. The studio announced its official pick Friday.
The Twilight alum will play the Caped Crusader, taking over the role for Ben Affleck, who starred two films and made an appearance in a third. According to multiple outlets, negotiations are already underway and the studio intends to sign Pattinson for a three-picture deal.
The feature, an origin story, is directed by Matt Reeves, who assumed the role of director from Affleck himself back in January 2017.
Pre-production is expected to start this summer, with the film slated to arrive in theaters June 25, 2021.
