The founder of the Royal Shakespeare Company and former National Theatre director, Sir Peter Hall, passed away aged 86. Hall died on Monday at the University College hospital in London after a long battle with dementia.
During his career, that lasted over half a century, he staged the English premiere of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot and the world premiere of Harold Pinter’s Homecoming.
In a statement, the National Theatre said it was deeply saddened to announce the death of “one of the great names in British theatre.”
“Peter Hall was an internationally celebrated stage director and theatre impresario, whose influence on the artistic life of Britain in the 20th century was unparalleled,” it said.
The theater world is paying tributes to Sir Peter.
