Warner Bros. has signed up the acclaimed filmmaker to direct New Gods as part of the studio’s DC Extended Universe. The superhero saga is based on DC comics series of the same name, first penned by legendary writer Jack Kirby in the 1970s.

The film involves a complex mythology and a pantheon of deities who hail from two twin planets, the idyllic New Genesis ruled by the Highfather, and Apokolips, a dystopia filled with machinery and fire pits ruled by Darkseid. Both of them consider themselves gods, living outside of normal space and time in a realm called the Fourth World.

The complex and large cast of characters could be challenging when it comes to bringing the franchise to the big screen but DuVernay has proven her skills with her take on A Wrinkle in Time. DuVernay became the first black woman in Hollywood to direct a live-action movie with a production budget of $100 million. The fantasy film has grossed to $42.2 million in its first six days in North America, according to Variety.

On Thursday, the 45-year-old director may have confirmed her involvement with the DC film when she thanked Jack Kirby on Twitter alongside a black and white photo of the famous creator.

If Warner Bros. push through with DuVernay, she will be the first woman of color to direct a DC Comics movie, ET reports. She previously directed the Oscar-nominated documentary 13^th and the historical drama film, Selma.

The 41-year-old actress went to visit an important “friend” of Sunday, that is of course her star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.

Reese made sure of course to document the hilarious moment on her Instagram Story.

“I’m running a little bit late for work today, but it’s really important,” Witherspoon explained. “I heard my friend is really close by, so I want to go meet her really quick and I want you guys to meet her too.” When she finally arrived, she said, “this is so exciting guys. Here she is!”

But this was no ordinary visit as Reese thought her friend needed some sprucing up! The mom of three took out a tissue and gave her star a good clean.

“Oh, now you’re looking good, girl,” she joked, “and don’t you let people walk all over you!” Reese also shared an adorable snap of herself next to her “friend” which she captioned, “”When you run into a friend on the street…”

AMC theaters make the exciting announcement Friday, saying that it is partnering up with Color of Change and “Give a Child the Universe” initiative. By encouraging people to donate or buy tickets to the movie, they hope to allow underprivileged children to see the film at their local AMC location.

“Color of Change believes in the power of images and supports those working to change the rules in Hollywood so that inclusive, empathetic and human portrayals of Black people and people of color are prominent on the screen,” said Rashad Robinson, executive director of Color Of Change. “From Selma to now A Wrinkle In Time, Ava DuVernay has set out to change the rules in Hollywood for people of color and women. By casting a black teenage actress Storm Reid as the heroine at the center of this story, the filmmakers, and the studio send a powerful message to millions of young people who will see someone like them embracing their individuality and strength to save the world. We are pleased to partner with AMC to ensure that as many young people as possible, regardless of economic and financial hardships, can see this groundbreaking film.”

Meg Murry (Storm Reid), sets off with her younger brother, Charles Wallace (Deric McCabe), her friend Calvin O’Keele (Levi Miller), and space guides, Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey), Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon) and Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling), to track down her father, Dr. Alex Murry, who discovers a way to travel to a new planet but captured by the dark force.

This fantasy movie is different from DuVernay’s previous directorial work, which all focused on realistic stories about racial conflicts like 2014’s Selma or 2013’s 13th.

A Wrinkle in Time hits theaters on March 9, 2018.
