The script for this promising project will be penned by newcomers Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald. It will focus on the underwater kingdom known as the Trench, and the deadly deep sea creatures that inhabit it. They made a brief appearance in the original movie when they attacked Aquaman and Mera, played by Jason Momoa and Amber Heard.

Unfortunately, we won’t get to see this duo in the upcoming spin-off. Cast members of Aquaman won’t participate in this project, and neither will their director James Wan who’s currently working on the sequel, which is still in its early stages.  

First movie left the room for the follow-up, and DC confirmed they’re working on it back in January. It’s safe to expect Jason Momoa will return for the sequel in titular role, but he’s yet to confirm his involvement.

Set to direct is Alex Ross Perry from his own script. Moss is producing the film alongside Matthew Perniciaro and Michael Sherman, Adam Piotrowicz, and Perry.

Moss will portray Becky Something, a destructive punk rock star who pushes her relationships with bandmates, family, and followers to the limit all the while battling to stay sober while attempting to re-engage the creativity that had once led her band to success.

“With Her Smell, Alex has crafted another fantastic piece filled with memorable characters,” said Perniciaro. “The film represents his continued evolution as one of our most important emerging cinematic voices. We are so excited to see this story about powerful, talented, beautifully flawed yet heroically unapologetic women come to life.”

Production of Her Smell will begin after Moss wraps production on the second season of The Handmaid’s Tale.
