American Horror Story fans rejoice! You haven’t seen the last of the Coven witches, yet.

The witches, which made their AHS debut in the third season, Coven and came back for the latest and eighth season, Apocalypse, will be coming back to a future installment of the horror franchise.

This was announced by AHS producer Ryan Murphy during an interview, after his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony Tuesday. “The witches will be back,” Murphy told Entertainment Tonight. Not next season, but we have something really fun planned.”

The witches of Miss Robichaux’s Academy are played by Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts, Taissa Farmiga, Frances Conroy, Gabourey Sidibe, and Lily Rabe. The producer did reveal any more details about the next installment of the franchise, but he did offer an explanation why.

“I can’t say what it is! I’m going to this luncheon, and many of the Horror Story actors are there, and I’m gonna tell them for the first time,” Murphy revealed. “So I have to tell them first.”

When the news was announced earlier this year that American Horror Story: Apocalypse was going to be a crossover between series favorites Murder House and Coven, fans went wild. When the season kicked off with an entirely new set of characters in a glamorous gothic underground bunker, however, fans started to express their concerns over whether this crossover was actually going to happen.

In episode four, the season shifted back in time to show the mysterious Michael Langdon rise to power. It turns out that he is an extremely powerful warlock (or so we thought), so powerful that his powers exceed that of the supreme. It wasn’t until the last scene in episode 4, however, the witches decide that the best way to find out who Michael Langdon is, is to return to the place where it all began… the Murder House.

“The Return To Murder House” unwinds so naturally, that the episode could almost be a direct sequel to the season one finale. We see Tate and Violet hopelessly struggling to be apart and Violet’s parents struggling once again with their marriage. As it turns out, their fallout this time is not over adultery, but over Vivienne and Tate’s tragic ‘lovechild’.

It is not long before it is revealed that Vivienne’s son is, in fact, Michael Langdon. The highly anticipated return of Jessica Lange illustrates through flashbacks that Michael has always been a disturbed child. He started out by pulling the legs off insects and before he’d finished primary school, he had committed his first murder.

The episode somewhat sympathetically explored Michael’s descent into evil right up until the final moments where we learn that Michael could quite possibly be the devil himself. It turns out that Tate was not the father, but it was the evil of the house that conceived baby Michael.

“The Return to Murder House” was a twofold success. On one hand, it aided the plot development of the current season by revealing more about our villain’s past. On the other hand, it added more to season one by tying up loose ends. In a touching scene, Madison even helps Violet resolve her relationship with Tate and the episode ends with them romantically reconciling in the window.

Overall, episode 6 was one of the best episodes yet and our interest is certainly piqued by now. Ryan Murphey subtly and successfully tied in the Murder House and the Coven, without anything appearing too contrived. We can’t wait to see how the rest of the season unfolds.

4.5/5

Surprise witches! Here comes the crossover we’ve all been waiting for!

Ryan Murphy has confirmed that season eight of American Horror Story will be the highly anticipated Murder House/Coven crossover.

The amazing news for AHS was announced by the co-creator on social media, tweeting, “The Coven/Murder House AHS crossover season won’t be happening next year…because it’s happening THIS YEAR. AHS #8 WITCHES RULE THIS SEPTEMBER.”

This means that the two most popular chapters of the horror anthology Season 1, Murder House, and Season 3, Coven, will be returning and crossing over.

Emma Roberts also took to social media, posting a video of herself looking a lot like her Coven’s character Madison Montgomery, saying, “Surprise, bitch. Bet you thought you’d seen the last of me.”

Confirmed to return to season 8 Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Kathy Bates. Billie Lourd, who first joined the Murphy-verse last year in Cult, is also on board, along with new cast member Joan Collins.

Other details remain scarce, but it is known that Paulson will reprise her Coven character, Cordelia Foxx. One Question remains, which characters should the crossover actors play, Murder House or Coven?

American Horror Story season 8 is heading to the future!

Ryan Murphy has decided to take AHS fans to the scariest place yet. After a haunted house, an asylum and a town run by witches the show is taking viewers to the future.

This development was revealed by Murphy Friday, at the Television Critics Association semi-annual press tour in Pasadena. According to Entertainment Weekly Murphy announced the news by saying, “All I’ll say about it is I want to go to the future—still topical, but the future, which I’ve never done.”

Does that mean space? “Not space,” Murphy clarified and added, “I pitched it to [FX chief] John Landgraf today right after his TCA panel, and he loved it, but he’s asked me not to say what it is,” Murphy added. “I told him and he fell out of his chair with joy. I think people will like it, it’s different from what we’ve done before, but I always try and do the opposite of what I’ve done on that show.”

Unfortunately for fans, no other information was revealed, yet.

Kai and Ally (played by Sarah Paulson), as creator Ryan Murphy teased earlier, were supposed to have a “love story for the ages” in Cult, but if this trailer is to be believed, something else will happen. You can see Ally speaking to her therapist and saying: “Since election night, it has all been getting so much worse.”

AHS: Cult premieres September 5 on FX.
