Andi Mack centers on 13-year-old Andi (Peyton Elizabeth Lee), whose world is rocked when she finds out that her older sister Bex (Lilan Bowden) is actually her mother. It also chronicles Andi’s interactions with her two best friends, Cyrus (Joshua Rush) and Buffy (Sofia Wylie).

It also stars Lauren Tom, Joshua Rush, Asher Angel and Trent Garrett.

The sitcom made history featuring Disney Channel’s first openly gay character.

“Andi Mack was a labor of love for a room of impassioned, inventive writers, a talented and dedicated crew, and an extraordinary, miraculous cast who inspired us all,” said series creator Terri Minsky in a statement. “We had the honor of breaking a lot of new ground for Disney Channel. We were its first serialized show, its first series centered around an Asian-American family and its first to feature an LGBTQ character who spoke the words, ‘I’m gay.’”

The groundbreaking storyline was praised by GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis for “reflecting the lives and lived experiences of so many LGBTQ youth around the country.”

The series finale scheduled to air July 26.

Variety confirms that Christy Carlson Romano and Patton Oswalt have both been tapped to star in the upcoming film. The duo voice starred in the original series which ran for 87 episodes beginning in 2002. Romano who voiced the titular teen super-spy in the original while will appear in a cameo role while Oswalt will reprise the role of Professor Dementor. 

The 34-year-old actress confirmed the news during D23’s Saturday Morning on the Lot event on Saturday.

“I can’t say too much about my involvement yet, but I’m very excited to help usher in the strong, empowered female character I helped bring to life, to a new generation,” she told ET. “And I’m equally thrilled to see what the original fans think!”

Both Oswalt and Romano took to social media to share their excitement, with Oswalt writing on Twitter “Yep! Can’t wait for you guys to see this!” and Romano retweeting him and adding, “Yay! Can’t wait!”

Starring as Kim in the movie is Sadie Stanley, Alyson Hannigan will portray Dr. Ann Possible (aka Mom Possible), Connie Ray will play Kim’s grandmother, Nana Possible and Todd Stashwick and Taylor Ortega will portray villains Drakken and Shego respectively. 

Penning the script are series’ creators Mark McCorkle and Robert Schooley along with Josh Cagan. McCorkle and Schooley will also executive produce with Zanne Devine.

The cable net has set a midsummer date for the premiere of Freaky Friday musical, hitting our screens on August 10. 

The latest take on Mary Rodgers’ mother-daughter body-swap classic is directed by Steve Carr, and is starring Heidi Blickenstaff and Cozi Zuehlsdroff as mom Katherine and daughter Ellie. The sweet duo announced the release date in a video posted Wednesday.  

The movie also stars Ricky He, Alex Désert, Jason Maybaum, Kahyun Kim, Dara R. Moss, Jennifer LaPorte, Isaiah Lehtinen, and Sarah Willey. 

“This movie is a creative collaboration with our Theatrical colleagues who developed an original stage musical from a beloved story,” Adam Bonnett, executive vice president of original programming at Disney Channel, said in a statement Wednesday. “Now we’ve added a fresh twist by adapting it again into a movie for kids and families — with Broadway talent on and off camera — that has the potential to be a classic for years to come.”

The movie is directed and executive-produced by Steve Carr. In charge of the music-and-lyrics are Pulitzer Prize-winning composers Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey.

Freaky Friday was most recently adapted to the big-screen in 2003 featuring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan.

Hannigan portrayal of Dr. Ann Possible (aka Mom Possible) joins previously announced Sadie Stanley as protagonist Kim Possible and Sean Giambrone as Ron Stoppable, Kim’s best friend. 

The comedy-adventure movie follows an everyday high school girl, Kim Possible who, in her spare time, using her brain, heart, and expertise, saves the world one day at a time. 

The new and upcoming Disney Channel movie also cast Todd Stashwick and Taylor Ortega, as villains Drakken and Shego, respectively, Ciara Wilson as new high school student Athena, and Erika Tham as Kim’s childhood frenemy, Bonnie.

The Kim Possible movie will be co-directed and co-produced by Adam B. Stein and Zach Lipovsky. Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley from the original series are co-writing the script with Josh Cagan. The executive producers are McCorkle, Schooley and Zanne Devine. 

The film is scheduled to premiere during 2019.

Gay characters have previously appeared on Disney Channel shows such as Good Luck Charlie and Doc McStuffins, but the storyline of a young character realizing that he or she is gay is a first for the network, according to ET.

The episode was pre-screened for several organizations, like Common Sense Media, GLAAD and PFLAG. Disney Channel and Minsky also collaborated with child development experts in formulating the premiere’s storyline.

“With more and more young people coming out as LGBTQ, Andi Mack is reflecting the lives and lived experiences of so many LGBTQ youth around the country,” said Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD president and CEO. “Television reflects the real-life world, and today that includes LGBTQ youth who deserve to see their lives depicted on their favorite shows.
