The forthcoming streaming service has ordered the documentary Expecting Amy from comedienne Amy Schumer. The docu feature chronicles Schumer’s journey while pregnant. 

According to multiple outlets, Expecting Amy will give viewers an “unfiltered” and “behind-the-scenes” look at Schumer as she goes through a difficult pregnancy, from the day she found out she was pregnant through the birth of her child.

”Women are warriors, every one of us. And I hope sharing my story brings more awareness to the challenges of pregnancy and childbirth,” said Schumer.

“Amy Schumer is an inspiration and this project is such an honest look at her experience being on the road while preparing for her special,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max in a statement. “Her willingness to showcase her immense vulnerability, during the most challenging time in her life, is both empowering and hilarious.”

Chuck Berry, a film directed and produced by Jon Brewer, is the first time the musician’s life is covered on screen. 

“The family members really gave a profound insight into the man behind the music,” Brewer tells Rolling Stone.

Game of Thrones: The Last Watch took fans behind the scenes, pulling the curtain back on what it took for both cast and crew to make the eighth and final season of the acclaimed fantasy drama.

The docu is a true homage to the show’s unbelievable creative work, which included a team of costumes, hair, makeup, set designers, stunt and special effects people among others. 

“The way Game of Thrones is developed is that every episode has much in it as any feature film but we have to do it quicker and with less money,” said producer Christopher Newman in the docu. According to production designer Deborah Riley, each hour filmed during the eight and final season of GoT cost $15 million or more. “All we were doing in seasons 4, 5, 6 and 7 were training for season 8,” Riley said. David Nutter, who directed three of season eight’s episodes, gave the creative team its much-deserved credit saying he’s simply “a conductor of fine musicians who basically waves his arms around.”

Here’s some things we learned from The Last Watch:

The moment when Kit Harington found out that Jon Snow kills his love and Queen Daenerys in the series finale. The footage of the final table read shows both actors get quite emotional about the fate of their on-screen love.

“I love this show more than anything. It has never been a job for me,” he told the assembled cast, crew and extras afterward, failing to hold back tears. “It has been my life. This will always be the greatest thing I”ll ever do.” 

The behind the scenes of Dany’s braided platinum mane. In earlier seasons, when Clarke’s hair color was darker,  the costumes people hid her hair with a white cap to hide the actress’s dark roots. 

“That is still the most beautiful hair I will ever have on my head,” Clarke said, looking at her braided wig while sitting in hair and makeup.

The feature documentary about Sly and The Family Stone is wrapping up for release next year.

The film about the life and legacy of the iconic funk artist has hailed from
Brady Spensor and has been ten years in the making. Spensor conducted exclusive interviews with the musician whose impact on the development of funk, soul, rock, and psychedelic music is undeniable.

“This production has been more than a decade in the making and seeing it all coming together is a dream come true,” he says. “The time we spent together was treasured and any opportunity to be around Sly was exceptional, and I wouldn’t pass it up for anything,” Spensor told Deadline. 

“It took months before Sly even remembered my name,” Spensor added. “But soon after, I would get called at all hours, day or night. This was at a time in his life when things were really difficult for Sly. I became his friend at his most down and out, most financially broke and feel incredibly grateful for Sly’s trust and participation allowing me to document the end of a tragic spiral, then the transition and the outcome of Sly winning a significant lawsuit that may have influenced The Music Modernization Act.”

After a legal battle and technical difficulties, the Aretha Franklin concert film is finally heading to the big screen. Deadline reports that Neon has acquired the North American rights to the iconic singer’s documentary, Amazing Grace. The deal was negotiated by Neon and Endeavor Content on behalf of filmmakers. The news comes one month after the movie premiered at DOC NYC.

Sabrina Owens, Franklin’s niece and personal representative of the Aretha Franklin Estate, said in a statement: “Amazing Grace is the heart and soul of Aretha Franklin. This film is authentic and is my aunt to her core. Our family couldn’t be more excited for audiences to experience the genius of her work and spirit through this film.”

The 1972 concert was shot by Sydney Pollack at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles. It chronicles Franklin’s return to gospel at the age of 29 and the genesis of the biggest gospel album to date.

Neon is planning an early 2019 theatrical release.

The two will serve as executive producers on the six-part television series for Discovery Channel. The series will explore the origins and dangers of hate, probing human capacity of hatred as well as for overcoming it. 

The Oscar-winning duo spoke with Variety, about their involvement in the project and their quest to trace the basis of hate, as well as their hopes for the series.  

“Getting to the root of the human condition is something I find not only fascinating but absolutely necessary in understanding who we are,” Spielberg told Variety. “With the team in place, we delve into historical and modern-day stories of hate, traveling around the globe to uncover its mystery in others and in ourselves. If we understand why we act the way we do, we can change the way we act. That is what we are uniquely capable of as human beings.”

“This is not a series that simply documents something that’s happening, it’s an inquiry — an attempt to understand why we hate, through the science, and through a sense of common humanity,” Gibney told Variety. “Hate is in our DNA. If we begin to understand this, that’s how we begin to get to a point of being able to hope that we can overcome hate.”

The series draws on in psychology, neuroscience, sociology, and history, in an attempt to uncover the origins of hate and perhaps ways to prevent it. 

The project has been gestating for four years, with Discovery Inc. CEO David Zaslav saying that there’s no one better suited for the project than Spielberg and Gibney. 

“Our aspiration is to be working with great storytellers like Steven and Alex all over the world on the most important and consequential stories and issues,” Zaslav said. “Why We Hate is even more relevant today, and the Discovery team and I are all in on this project. It is Discovery’s commitment and a critical part of our heritage and mission.”

Netflix’s upcoming documentary miniseries Rapture will examine the hip-hop culture. According to the streaming platform, the series will offer an up close and personal look “into the artists’ lives with their families and friends, to sitting front row in the studio and grinding on tour, to experiencing the ecstatic power of moving the crowd.”

Netflix announced Sunday that the eight-part series will debut on March 30 and will feature a list of the genre’s top performers including Nas, Dave East, T.I., Rapsody, Logic, G-Eazy, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, 2 Chainz and more.

Directing and serving as executive producer is Sacha Jenkins who said in a statement, “Way back, when hip-hop culture was in its gestational phase, the powerful message therein didn’t go much further than the five boroughs of New York City. Today, rap music is the heartbeat of Mother Earth, and Netflix is the embodiment of the eyes from which she sees. The new documentary will be directed by Thom Zimny, who also directed several Springsteen documentaries as well as HBO upcoming Film Elvis Presley: The Searcher.

The news of the still untitled new documentary came just one day before the 50th anniversary of Cash’s famous concert at Folsom Prison. The Cash doc will explore Cash’s music and biography through the famous prison concert, where the singer warned his audience not to say “hell or s**t” because Columbia Records was going to put it out on vinyl. That concert was the basis for his triple-platinum-selling album, Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison.

“While the linear narrative of the Folsom Prison performances will anchor our film, each song in the set list will open a door into a nonlinear presentation of Cash’s emotional, musical and personal development,” said Zimny in a statement.

The music icon was already featured in a 2015 biopic portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, directed by James Mangold.

The documentary will have the full support of the Cash estate.

It has been confirmed that McGowan will star in a new reality TV series. E! announced Tuesday that the 44-year-old actress and activist will star in a new five-part documentary titled CITIZEN ROSE. I

“You are formally invited into my mind and world. I am thrilled to partner with E! to amplify my message of bravery, art, joy and survival,” McGowan said in a statement. The series centered on McGowan will follow her as she works on her manifesto Brave, to which she also spoke of in the her statement.

“As I ready my book, Brave, I realized I wanted to show how we can heal through art even when being hounded by evil. I want to have a conversation with everyone, and most especially, you about looking at things differently and seeing beauty everywhere. E!’s tremendous reach and impressive platform allow me to globally communicate the importance of living a Brave life.”
