Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer come back together in this highly-anticipated reunion special, 17 years after this iconic 90s sitcom came to an end in 2004 after 10 seasons.

The trailer shows them revisiting several locations from the original show—including Monica’s apartment and the iconic fountain from the opening theme—and having the time of their lives reminiscing about the past and revisiting memories they made by each other’s side.

In addition to the original six cast members, the special will feature many beloved guest stars, including Maggie Wheeler, Reese Witherspoon, and Tom Selleck. James Corden, David Beckham, Justin Bieber, BTS, Lady Gaga, Elliott Gould, and Mindy Kaling are also expected to make a cameo.

Friends: The Reunion will be released on HBO Max on May 27th, and it will mark the first anniversary of this streaming service.

Multiple outlets confirm that 15 years after the hit sitcom aired its series finale, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer have signed on to take part in a taped unscripted reunion special for HBO Max. 

But don’t get too excited — the reunion isn’t a reboot or a revival, but an opportunity for the six friends to get back together and talk about their show. 

“Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together — we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire Friends library,” said Kevin Reilly, chief content officer at HBO Max in a statement. “I became aware of Friend’ when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers generation after generation. It taps into an era when friends — and audiences — gathered together in real-time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans.”

Ben Winston will direct the special. He will also executive produce alongside Friends exec producers Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman, and David Crane. 

Friends ran for 10 seasons from 1994-2004 on NBC. All ten seasons of the sitcom left Netflix at the end of 2019 and will be available to stream again once HBO Max launches in May.

Freddie Prinze Jr. tells Entertainment Weekly that originally, it was Tom Hanks who was to portray the “manny” Ross (David Schwimmer) and Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) hire to watch Emma in “The One With the Male Nanny.”

“I wasn’t even supposed to be [Sandy], that was originally offered to Tom Hanks but he wasn’t gonna make it back from his film on time,” Prinze told Entertainment Weekly. “And so my agent called me and said, ‘Do you want to be on Friends? And I said, ‘Yeah, I’ll do an episode of Friends. That’ll be great.’ He said, ‘Yeah, it shoots tomorrow.’ and I was like, ‘What?’ He said, ‘Yes, tomorrow so I’ll send you the script.’”

Over its ten seasons and 236 episodes, the iconic sitcom had over 73 of the industry’s A-listers guest star. The slew of famous actors and actresses include Reese Witherspoon, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Danny DeVitto, Susan Sarandon, and many many more.

Just before NBC launched its sitcom about six twenty-something friends trying to figure out life in New York City, the network had some issues with Monica’s pilot story. 

“When we were doing the pilot, Don Meyer, who was then the head of NBC, took real issue with the fact that Monica sleeps with a guy on the first date. Friends co-creator said, ‘We’re not going to like her!’ But we really held our ground on it.”

According to Entertainment Weekly, director James Burrows insisted on having a live audience run-through so network execs can see exactly “what’s working.” While the network “gave the audience a questionnaire that was so skewed,” it actually came back with a super positive response to the Monica and Paul the wine guy story. 

“The audience all came back with, ‘No, we still like her,’” Crane says. “Then Don got on board because he said, ‘Well I’m okay with it because she gets what she deserves when the guy sort of screws her over.’” 

Despite being a bit of a controversial story back in the mid-90s, it made it into the pilot.

While Phoebe might not approve of Pottery Barn, the home-furnishing store knows just how popular the iconic NBC sitcom still is and is releasing a Friends-themed collection!

To mark the iconic sitcom’s 25th anniversary, Pottery Barn has created a special collection 14 items including accessories, furniture, and tabletop items, ”Central Perk-worthy accents” and of course Rachel and Phoebe’s iconic apothecary table from that season six episode. 

Patrick Connolly, a former executive Williams-Sonoma (parent company of Pottery Barn), once said the apothecary table episode is “gift that keeps on giving,” as “phones light up with catalog requests every time it airs in syndication.”

The items will range from $13 to $1,099 and will available in September, just in time for the show’s 25th anniversary.

Fast forward to fifteen years later to Wednesday’s The Today Show, where Aniston speculates that the current relationship of Ross and Rachel is that they are definitely still together. 

“Yes, absolutely,” she told interviewer Natalie Morales and added, “Emma’s grown up. She’s in high school. Let’s say junior high.” 

Will we ever get to see them together again? Well just last week on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the actress said she is open to a Friends reunion. “I would do it,” she told Ellen. “The girls would do it, and the boys would do it, I’m sure. Listen, anything can happen.”

According to NBC News, the rumors were believed to be true since it has been unclear how much longer the show will remain on Netflix, given that WarnerMedia that owns the rights to Friends, is planning to launch its own streaming service next year.

The streaming service was quick to respond to the hysteria, assuring fans that Friends is here to stay. The service confirmed the good news via its official Twitter, writing “The Holiday Armadillo has granted your wish: “Friends” will still be there for you in the US throughout 2019.”

Sources differ on the price tag that Netflix paid to keep the ’90s-era sitcom next year. Even Jennifer Aniston said she’s blown away by the series’ immense popularity, one that would prompt Netflix big money to keep it.

“I find it amazing that it’s continued to have such love and such an audience and such an appetite for it,” Aniston told The Associated Press at the premiere of her Netflix film Dumplin. “I think it says a lot about the show. Especially since it takes place at a time where it’s so different from now. You know, people actually spoke to each other and hung out with each other and talked,” she added.

The Modern Family pilot script made its way to the star of Friends during 2009, after the unsuccessful attempt at a Joey spinoff. LeBlanc told USA Today that the script “came across my desk with an offer to play Ty Burrell’s role,” the actor recalled his reaction, and added, “I remember reading it thinking, this is a really good script, (but) I’m not the guy for this. I’d be doing the project an injustice to take this. I know what I can do, I know what I can’t do. Plus, I’m having too much fun laying on the couch.”

Had he taken the role, it would have been a reunion for LeBlanc and Modern Family’s star Ed O’Neill who worked together shortly on the Married… With Children spinoff, Top of the Heap.
