]]>Variety confirms that a VR game is being developed by Tequila Works in partnership with Sony Pictures Virtual Reality.
The classic comedy is coming back as Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son is a “virtual reality adventure game.” The original 1993 film starred Bill Murray as Phil Connors, a weatherman who’s trapped in an endless loop as he relived the same day over and over again.
The outlet reports that the game will drop players into a reoccurring day in the life of Phil Connors Jr., son of Phil Connors.
“We are not developing a new ‘Groundhog Day’ movie,” Jake Zim, senior vice president of the Sony Pictures VR group, told Variety. “This is us expanding the storyline into a new format. We’ve taken Groundhog Day and put it into a musical, now we’re putting it into an immersive experience.
Groundhog Day is a real attempt to make a real game,” he added.

]]>Bill Murray‘s crying while watching Groundhog Day in a Broadway theater is the sweetest thing we saw this week. The musical, based on the same-name 1993’s movie starring Murray, premiered in London last summer.
Sopan Deb from New York Times reported on Twitter: “By the time the cast was bowing on stage, Mr. Murray was in tears. He waited a minute to compose himself before joining the rest of the audience to cheer the cast.”
Murray explained what moved him to tears: “The idea that we just have to try again. We just have to try again. It’s such a beautiful, powerful idea.”
This was Bill Murray's speech to the Groundhog's Day cast. Stay tuned for the part about the Panama Canal. pic.twitter.com/YK0nhkxiAa
