]]>Jackson will take the stage in Sin City shortly after officially being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. She’ll perform a total of 15 shows at the Park Theater at the Park MGM resort, starting with the first concert on May 17.
Jackson’s Las Vegas residency couldn’t have come at a better time since it marks the 30-year anniversary of her seminal studio album Rhythm Nation. The five-time Grammy winner will be the centerpiece of this explosive show, but she’ll use it to encourage her audience to find their own light.
“Metamorphosis peels back the layers of the immensely private life of Janet Jackson, sharing her transformation from a young girl with issues of self-esteem to global Icon,” reads the official description of Jackson’s Las Vegas residency.

]]>The news was confirmed via the show’s official Twitter account — “Legendary singer, dancer, actress, activist and 2018 #MTVEMAGLOBAL ICON! @janetjackson is forever the Queen!!,” they wrote.
“Janet is without question one of the world’s biggest stars,” said Bruce Gillmer, global head of music and talent, Viacom and co-brand head, MTV International. “Her incredible artistry has opened doors for countless others while leaving an indelible impact on pop culture – well over three decades and counting. We’re thrilled to honor her as this year’s MTV Global Icon.”
“It was only a matter of time before she received the award,” MTV said. “Her music has been loved around the world since the 1980s when she first began releasing groundbreaking albums like Control and Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814. She’s now one of the best-selling artists of all time. Seven of her albums are certified platinum and she’s sold over 160 million records.”
This isn’t Jackson’s first Icon Award. She also received the award at this year’s Billboard Music Awards.
The iconic songstress will take the EMA stage for the first time to perform a medley of her hits, including her latest hit, “Made for Now” which, according to Variety, debuted top of the iTunes charts with the video generating nearly 45 million views.
The 2018 MTV EMAs will take place at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre in Spain. The November 4 show will be hosted by Hailee Steinfeld.

]]>The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has revealed its shortlist of nominees for 2019 on Tuesday. A total of fourteen artists and bands have been nominated.
The list includes first time nominees like Def Leppard and Roxy Music as well as returning nominees including Janet Jackson, Radiohead, and Rage Against the Machine. The rapper LL Cool J was nominated for the fifth time and if chosen he will be the seventh hip-hip artist inducted.
Artists become eligible for nomination 25 years after the release of their first recording. An international voting body composed of artists, historians, and music industry personas considers “an artist’s musical influence on other artists, length and depth of career and the body of work, innovation, and superiority in style and technique.” According to the Rock & Hall Fame website, “the top five artists, as selected by the public, will comprise a ‘fans’ ballot’ that will be tallied along with the other ballots to choose the 2019 inductee.”

]]>The 89-year-old patriarch of the Jackson family died on Wednesday while in hospital care in Las Vegas and according to ET, Joe’s health has worsened and his family was gathering to say their goodbyes. He was diagnosed with terminal cancer and has been fighting the illness for a while now but recently, doctors informed the family that he has a short time to live because the cancer cannot be treated.
The co-executors of Michael Jackson’s estate released a statement confirming Joe’s death. “We are deeply saddened by Mr. Jackson’s passing and extend our heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Katherine Jackson and the family,” John Branca and John McClain said. “Joe was a strong man who acknowledged his own imperfections and heroically delivered his sons and daughters from the steel mills of Gary, Indiana, to worldwide pop superstardom.”
On Sunday, a tweet was posted from Mr. Jackson’s official Twitter account showing a photo of him standing against a sunset as if awaiting his final departure.

“I will always love you! You gave us strength, you made us one of the most famous families in the world,” she wrote on her official Twitter account. “I am extremely appreciative of that, I will never forget our moments together and how you told me how much you cared. #RIP Joe Jackson.”

]]>“Hey, you guys! I’m backstage in Louisiana and I’m at rehearsal about to kick off my tour and our next show is in Houston. I know that there have been rumors on whether we were gonna do the show in Houston,” the 51-year-old singer said in a video post. “I’m here to tell you that we are doing the show in Houston. But we’re gonna roll in early because we want to visit some of the shelters.”
“We also want to do something special for the victims,” she continued. “So I will see you Friday.”
Jackson will perform in 56 cities across North America from September to December as part of her State of the World concert tour. The show kicks off Thursday in Lafayette, Louisiana and will conclude in Atlanta, San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
According to ET, many artists decided to postpone their concerts after safety concerns arose prior to the hurricane. Jackson is one of many celebrities who have helped out victims following Harvey’s extreme flooding in Texas and the Gulf Coast. Stars such as Beyonce, Julia Roberts, and George Clooney will be participating in Hurricane Harvey telethon on Sept. 12.
