]]> The world of fashion waved goodbye to one of the biggest trailblazers in history this Tuesday, when Karl Lagerfeld passed away in Paris. Famed designer is best known for driving the creative vision at Chanel for over three decades.

Lagerfeld joined this luxury fashion house in 1983, rejuvenated this label and helped it reach the holy grail of luxury. He also served as creative director for Italian luxury house Fendi and went on to start his own eponymous brand, which allowed him to spread his wings and explore uncharted territories.

The House of Karl Lagerfeld shared the news of his passing on Tuesday morning, and described him as one of the most influential and celebrated designers of the 21st century and an iconic, universal symbol of style.

 “Driven by a phenomenal sense of creativity, Karl was passionate, powerful and intensely curious. He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy as one of the greatest designers of our time, and there are no words to express how much he will be missed,” read the statement by the House of Karl Lagerfeld.

It is with deep sadness that the House of CHANEL announces the passing of Karl Lagerfeld, the Creative Director for the CHANEL Fashion House since 1983. An extraordinary creative individual, Karl Lagerfeld reinvented the brand’s codes created by Gabrielle Chanel: the CHANEL jacket and suit, the little black dress, the precious tweeds, the two-tone shoes, the quilted handbags, the pearls and costume jewelry. Regarding Gabrielle Chanel, he said, “My job is not to do what she did, but what she would have done. The good thing about Chanel is it is an idea you can adapt to many things.” A prolific creative mind with endless imagination, Karl Lagerfeld explored many artistic horizons, including photography and short films. The House of CHANEL benefited from his talent for all the branding campaigns related to Fashion since 1987. Finally, one cannot refer to Karl Lagerfeld without mentioning his innate sense of repartee and self-mockery. Alain Wertheimer, CEO of CHANEL, said: “Thanks to his creative genius, generosity and exceptional intuition, Karl Lagerfeld was ahead of his time, which widely contributed to the House of CHANEL’s success throughout the world. Today, not only have I lost a friend, but we have all lost an extraordinary creative mind to whom I gave carte blanche in the early 1980s to reinvent the brand.” Bruno Pavlovsky, President of Fashion at CHANEL, said: “Fashion show after fashion show, collection after collection, Karl Lagerfeld left his mark on the legend of Gabrielle Chanel and the history of the House of CHANEL. He steadfastly promoted the talent and expertise of CHANEL’s ateliers and Métiers d’Art, allowing this exceptional know-how to shine throughout the world. The greatest tribute we can pay today is to continue to follow the path he traced by – to quote Karl – ‘continuing to embrace the present and invent the future’.” Virginie Viard, Director of CHANEL’s Fashion Creation Studio and Karl Lagerfeld’s closest collaborator for more than 30 years, has been entrusted by Alain Wertheimer with the creative work for the collections, so that the legacy of Gabrielle Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld can live on.

We are so lucky to have lived in the same era as Karl. He lived an extraordinary life and we are so fortunate that he shared all of his knowledge, vision and experiences with us. It’s such a huge loss for our industry. On a personal note, the last time I saw him was last December in New York. I had a private meeting where he showed me a preview of the Metiers Art show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He was upbeat, sharp as always and engaging. When he was speaking about the collection he casually showed me a black and white picture of his mother. It was such a sweet moment that contrasted with all the chaos and frenzy that surrounds the organization of a big Chanel show. He was especially close to our creative director Stephen Gan. We will miss this fashion giant that always sent the most beautiful notes that always accompanied a bouquet of the most gorgeous flowers. Thank you for your heartfelt advice and appreciation of @elleusa 🖤

]]> Looks like the fashion industry can’t get enough of 2nd generation models.

After making her runaway debut last September during New York Fashion Week, Cindy Crawford’s daughter, Kaia Gerber is making headlines.

The 16-year-old model is officially teaming up with Karl Lagerfeld to design her own capsule collection.

The news was announced Tuesday on Karl Lagerfeld’s official Instragram with a pic a Gerber captioned, “#KARLLAGERFELD is proud to announce it is partnering with the most-wanted model @kaiagerber, to introduce the “KARL LAGERFELD x KAIA” capsule collection in Fall 2018.”

According to WWD, Gerber has been working on a line of ready-to-wear and accessories including footwear, sunglasses and jewelry. Her designs are described as a mix of West Coast casual style and Lagerfeld’s Parisian chic aesthetic.

“When Karl first told us his idea to collaborate with Kaia, we were all excited by the incredible potential and power of bringing their two worlds together,” said Pier Paolo Righi, chief executive officer of Karl Lagerfeld, in a statement. “We have been working intensely over the last months with Kaia in LA and at our studio in Paris. It was exciting to see her clear vision, passion and engagement, and the collection will definitely inspire many young women.”

The collection will hit stores in September.
