The Frasier alum has been tapped to star in Fox’s new legal drama Proven Innocent.

Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Kelsey Grammar will replace the character played by Brian D’Arcy James in the pilot, Cole Bellows. The character is a “hard-as-nails and tough-on-crime state’s attorney, who goes up against an underdog legal team committed to reopening investigations to exonerate the innocent who were ‘proven’ guilty.” That team is lead by lawyer Madeline Scott, portrayed by actress Rachelle Lefevre.

The subject matter is very timely and worth exploring; I am excited to be a part of that,” said Grammer.

The series is penned by David Elliot and executive produced by Danny Strong, Vincent Kartheiser, Russell Hornsby and Riley Smith.

Also starring are Vincent Kartheiser, Nikki M. James, and Russell Hornsby.

The Last Tycoon aimed to be a lavish re-creation of 1930s Hollywood as an expansion of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s last, unfinished text (the novel was published posthumously in 1941). The story was to center on the charismatic movie mogul Stahr and his relationship with mentor Brady.

The series began streaming on July 28 and ran 9 episodes. EW has confirmed that after a single season, the streaming service has opted to cancel the series starring Matt Bomer as Monroe Stahr, alongside Kelsey Grammar and Lily Collins. Even though Amazon does not release viewership information, it did debut to mixed critical reviews with a score of 53% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The decision to cancel The Last Tycoon arrived days after Amazon canceled another Fitzgerald drama, the previously renewed Z: The Beginning of Everything, starring Christina Ricci as the author’s wife, Zelda Fitzgerald.
