]]>While the upcoming season may be its last, the Netflix series just got bigger with six additional episodes.
News of the expanded send-off handed out by the streaming giant to the supernatural crime drama was announced Friday via a tweet from its See What’s Next account.
“Lucifer Season 5 just got a HELL of a lot better — and bigger,” it reads. “We’ve added six more hours, for a grand total of 16 episodes!”
Lucifer first aired on Fox, where it ran for three seasons before being axed by the network. It was then picked up by the streaming giant for a fourth season and renewed for a fifth and final installment just last month.
“We are so incredibly thankful to Netflix for … letting us finish the story of Lucifer on our terms. Most importantly, we want to thank the fans for their incredible passion and support. The best is yet to come!” co-showrunner Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson said of the original final-season pickup.

]]>Netflix announced the cancellation of the show in an official statement, and, at the same time, promised an epic conclusion that’s worth the wait.
“We’re thrilled that Lucifer fans around the world have embraced this series on Netflix, and we can’t wait to give them the big finish they’ve all been waiting for,” reads the statement by the popular streaming service.
Lucifer follows the adventures of the Lord of Hell Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), who decides to resign his throne out of boredom and spend some time on Earth in the hope he’ll get a better understanding of humanity.
This series premiered on Fox in 2016, and after the network decided to end its run three years later, Netflix agreed to pick it up. The fifth and final season is expected to premiere sometime next year.

]]>After almost a month after Fox canceled Lucifer, it looks like the devil is here to stay, as Netflix ordered a fourth season of the Warner Bros. production.
Lucifer joins Brooklyn Nine-Nine as the second Fox series to be canceled only to find a new network to call home.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Lucifer was never a rating hit, averaging a 1.3 rating among adults 18-49 and nearly 5 million viewers once all live-plus-seven-day lifts were factored in.
After the revival was confirmed by the streaming giant, Tom Ellis took to Twitter himself writing, “WE DID IT !!!!!!!!!!! Thank you to everyone for your continued support and love for #Lucifer I am so happy for all our fans I’m going to burst.”
Per THR, the episode count for the fourth season had yet to be determined.
