According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Fallout centers on high schooler Vada (Ortega) who must navigate the emotional fallout she experiences in the wake of a school tragedy, after which relationships with her family, friends, and view on the world are forever altered.

“Maddie is an exceptional talent, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring her on board. She will bring so much to the production,” producer David Brown, from Clear Horizon, said in a statement.

Ziegler is best known for performing in Sia’s music video “Chandelier” and can be next be seen in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story.

We don’t know much about her upcoming studio recording, but Sia has been discussing the possibility of making a musical for quite some time. She’s been working on her directorial debut Music for over three years, and it’s supposed to feature a couple of familiar faces.

Her musical has been described as the story of “finding your voice and creating your own family.” Sia’s dancing muse Maddie Ziegler will portray an autistic girl who comes under the care of her sober drug-dealing sister, played by Kate Hudson.

Sia wrote all the music for the film, and she’s been working on the story with children’s book author Dallas Clayton. Release date of this project remains a mystery, but she said it’s coming in 2019 – so we’ll take her word for it.

The former Dance Moms star has just celebrated her 16th birthday in style. Ziegler was surprised by longtime friend, singer Sia. The two have been close ever since the 42-year-old singer chose Maddie as the star of her music video for “Chandelier.” This cooperation skyrocketed Maddie’s career and elevated her celebrity status.

The 16-year-old took to Instagram and shared a series of pics and vids including a snap of her posing in front of her new car with pink 16 balloons on the side. She captioned the pic with, “sweet sixteen can’t believe this car is actually mine !!” In another photo, she’s on the hood of her car with Sia busting out a yoga move in front of it. Another photo shows her celebrating with Stevie Wonder’s son Kailand Morris. 

Sia also shared moments from the star’s special day. Clad in a red jumpsuit Sia is seen charging at the young dancer. She also shared a video of Maddie jumping over the car. “Happy Birthday to my most special noonoo @maddieziegler ,” she wrote.”

“She’s amazing I mean she knows how to do everything, she’s the most incredible actor and she’s probably my biggest inspiration in life – her and Sia, two girl empowerment, they’re amazing,” Ziegler said.

Before the collaboration with Sia and Hudson, Ziegler has lent her voice to the animated Leap! playing a not-so-nice ballerina, a character she’s unsurprisingly somewhat familiar with.

“I feel like there are so many snobby ballerinas in real life and I’ve had to deal with a lot of mean dancers but I guess my character’s just an example of what not to be in the dance scene,” she said.

The teenage star also offered some advice for dealing with mean girls: “[j]ust block ‘em out.”

Leap! will hit theaters on August 25.
