]]>The Golden Globe-nominated series starring Hayden Panettiere and Connie Britton followed the lives and tragedies of rising and fading country music stars in Nashville, Tennessee. The hit show was created by Callie Khouri and premiered on ABC in 2012 but moved to CMT in 2016 where it stayed for two years.
Producer Scott Delman, who has 10 Tony nods under his belt, promised an exciting show, which will deliver Broadway’s first score of true contemporary country music.

]]>The final season will be 16 episode and will premiere January 4, meaning the series finale will air in summer 2018.
“All of us on Nashville are so incredibly grateful to the show’s fans, who convinced CMT to give us a chance to keep telling the story of these remarkable characters,” executive producer Marshall Herskovitz said in a statement. “And we want to return the favor with a final season that celebrates all the joys and passions, twists and turns – and amazing music that made Nashville such an exciting journey for the last six years.”
Kevin Beggs, chairman of Lionsgate Television group said the it has been a journey of 120 episodes of “unforgettable television,” however it is time, creatively for the series to come to an end. “We’re very proud of our incredibly talented cast and crew, the creative brilliance of our showrunners, and the loyal support of our great partners at CMT, Hulu and ABC Studios,” Beggs added in his statement.
In May 2016 the show was axed by ABC after four seasons, but was immediately picked up and saved by CMT. Most of the original cast made it through the transition, but Connie Britton was killed off the show in season five.
Nashville’s sixth and final season will premiere January 4 on CMT.

The show’s pilot was created, written and executive-produced by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. This role reunited Britton with Murphy and Falchuk, as she previously starred in Season 1 of American Horror Story, co-created by the pair as well as American Crime Story Season 1, which the two executive produced.
