Variety was first to report that Jeff Davis and Fox have set their first project under Davis’ broadcast-only overall deal at the broadcaster. It is known that Davis will serve as writer and executive producer on the project, however, everything else about the series is being kept under wraps. 

The project not only marks Davis’ first post-Criminal Minds gig but should it go to series, it would also would the first primetime animated drama in Fox’s history.

The streamer unveiled the teaser for Solar Opposites. The series hails from Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland and the Adult Swim writer Mike McMahan.

The alien animated comedy follows a team of four aliens who have escaped their exploding home world, only to crash land into a move-in ready home in suburban America. They are evenly split on whether Earth is awful or awesome.  

The series voice stars Roiland, Sean Giambrone, Thomas Middleditch as Mary Mack leads, alongside a long list of series guest stars including Alan Tudyk, Alfred Molina, Amanda Leighton, Andrew Matarazzo, Andy Daly, Calum Worthy, Chris Cox, Christina Hendricks, Echo Kellum, Eric Bauza, Gary Anthony Williams, Gideon Adlon, Jacob Vargus, Jason Mantzoukas, Jeannie Elias, Jesse Mendel, Jon Barinholtz, Karan Brar, Kari Wahlgren, Ken Marino, Liam Cunningham, among others.

HBO Max has greenlighted The Prince, an animated satire based on Janetti’s Instagram account which pokes fun at the British royals through the eyes of Prince George, the eldest child of Prince William and Kate. 

Family Guy producer Janetti will write and executive produce the series. He will also voice star alongside Orlando Bloom, Condola Rashad, Lucy Punch, Tom Hollander, Alan Cumming, Frances De La Tour, and Iwan Rheon.

“I’m thrilled to be working at HBO Max and bringing them yet another series about a family ruthlessly fighting for the throne,” said Janetti.

According to multiple outlets, the streaming giant is rebooting He-Man after having partnered with Mattel Television. 

The new CG-animated He-Man and the Masters of the Universe will feature new storylines, and will reportedly remain separate from Netflix’s She-Ra and the Princess of Power reboot. 

This project is not to be confused with the streamer’s previously announced anime series Masters of the Universe: Revelation from Kevin Smith.

Per the official logline: “On the planet of Eternia, a young lost prince discovers the powers of Grayskull and transforms into He-Man, Master of the Universe! The classic battle between He-Man and evil Skeletor rages to new heights as both hero and villain forge new and mighty teams. A new generation of heroes fighting for the fate of us all. In the end, who will become Master of the Universe?”

The streaming giant came out with some big news on the 42nd anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death, announcing that it has ordered a brand new adult animated action-comedy series from no other than Priscilla Presley. 

Per the official description, in Agent King, “Elvis Presley trades in his white jumpsuit for a jet pack when he is covertly inducted into a secret government spy program to help battle the dark forces that threaten the country he loves — all while holding down his day job as the King Of Rock And Roll.”

Priscilla stated, “From the time Elvis was a young boy he always dreamed of being the superhero fighting crime and saving the world! Agent King lets him do just that. My co-creator John Eddie and I are so excited to be working with Netflix and Sony Animation on this amazing project and getting the chance to show the world an Elvis they haven’t seen before.”

Mike Arnold will serve as showrunner. Presley and Eddie are co-creators as well as executive producers. Jerry Schilling joined the project as a consultant, and designer John Varvatos will create Elvis’s wardrobe for the show.

Jodie will center on Daria’s best friend, Jodie, an African-American student from the original series. The series will follow her as she comes into her own and enters the workplace in her first post-college job in tech. Other former students of Lawndale High will also appear.

“Given the passion for these characters, there was only one person who could build upon the legacy to reimagine Jodie for a whole new generation, and that person is Tracee Ellis Ross,” said MTV president Chris McCarthy. “This marks another exciting step forward for MTV Studios as we build out a wide new slate based on the rich characters from the history in MTV Animation.”

Daria was hailed for her feminist take on key issues such as class, race, and gender. It ran for five seasons (1997-2002).

The social giant announced Tuesday that it has given the green light to Human Discoveries and that the new animated comedy will star Anna Kendrick and Zac Efron. Kendrick and Efron join the previously announced Lamorne Morris, Jillian Bell, Paul Scheer and Lisa Kudrow.

According to Variety, the new series follows a group of friends living at the dawn of human civilization. They’re the first to discover innovations like fire and the wheel — as well as humanity’s other best and worst innovations, including art, alcohol, fashion, racism… and, confusingly — monogamy. 

Human Discoveries hails from Chris Bruno and David Howard Lee. t’s executive produced by Kirk J. Rudell, Bruno, Lee, Kendrick, Efron, Jason Barrett and Michael Simkin.

Human Discoveries is set to debut later this year on Facebook Watch.

Lyle & Caroline is described as a family-driven comedy focusing on the friendship of its two titular characters, who form a surrogate grandparent/grandchild bond in an unexpected way. According to Deadline, Kudrow will provide the voiceover of Caroline, the high school-aged grandchild.

Fox is definitely pushing into animated content under president Michael Thorn. Lyle & Caroline is the network’s latest animated effort following Amy Poehler’s Duncanville and Bless This Mess from Emily Spivey, Phil Lord, and Chris Miller.

The Star Trek universe is expanding with the streaming service green-lighting the new animated series titled Star Trek: Lower Decks. 

CBS All Access has put in a two-season order for a half-hour animated show – the service’s first original animated series helmed by Rick and Morty head writer Mike McMahan. According to the service, the comedy will focus “on the support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least important ships.”

“Mike won our hearts with his first sentence: ‘I want to do a show about the people who put the yellow cartridge in the food replicator so a banana can come out the other end,’” said executive producer Alex Kurtzman. “His cat’s name is Riker. His son’s name is Sagan. The man is committed. He’s brilliantly funny and knows every inch of every Trek episode, and that’s his secret sauce: he writes with the pure, joyful heart of a true fan. As we broaden the world of Trek to fans of all ages, we’re so excited to include Mike’s extraordinary voice.”

He continued: “As a life-long Trekkie, it’s a surreal and wonderful dream come true to be a part of this new era of Star Trek. While Star Trek: Lower Decks is a half-hour, animated show at its core, it’s undeniably Trek — and I promise not to add an episode at the very end that reveals the whole thing took place in a training program.”

While plot details are being kept under wraps, fans already know that McMahan is well versed in writing for Trek. In 2011 he began a Twitter account where he posted fake plots for Star Trek: The Next Generation.
