]]>News that the post-apocalyptic drama will end with its forthcoming seventh season was confirmed Sunday by series creator and showrunner Jason Rothenberg. Rothenberg took to social media to share the news with fans, writing, “With #The100 Season 6 finale just days away, I have some bittersweet news to share: Season 7 will be our last. We are eternally grateful to WB & CW for always allowing us to tell our story the way we want to & to wrap the show on our terms. What an incredible ride this has been!”
News of the cancelation was also confirmed by network President, Mark Pedowitz at the TCA summer press tour. He said, “We’ve been very good at listening to our showrunner creators about the right time to end our series.”
The post-apocalyptic drama followed a mostly adolescent group of survivors fighting to stay alive despite unimaginable odds. The 100 was inspired by the young adult novels by Kass Morgan and starred Eliza Taylor, Paige Turco, Bob Morley, Marie Avgeropoulos, Lindsey Morgan, Richard Harmon, Shannon Kook, JR Bourne, and Tasya Teles.

]]>Since the show went on hiatus mid-March following series’ star Lori Loughlin’s involvement in the college admissions scandal, fans have been in limbo worrying about WCTH’s future.
The good news was announced by series lead Erin Krakow only three days after fans received word that season 6 will resume on May 5. Krakow said in a video posted on Instagram, “I am thrilled to announce When Calls the Heart Season 7, coming next year! We can’t wait to get back to Hope Valley!”
On Wednesday, executive producer Brian Bird thanked the show’s fans on Instagram for “sticking with us through this challenging time. Life throws all of us painful curveballs, and the only way to survive is to walk right through them with courage, grace, a forgiving spirit, and most of all, hope. Many of you have wondered what the future holds for our cast and crew, and for the citizens of Hope Valley. Your care and concern mean the world to us, and the best way we can thank you is to encourage you the way you encourage us because… Hope always lives here.”
Entertainment Weekly also reports that the remaining episodes of Season 6 have been re-edited, so that Loughlin — who plays Abigail Stanton, the mayor of Hope Valley — has been removed.
When Calls the Heart will resume its regular airing schedule following its special two-night event on May 5 and 6.
