The project will be helmed by the I Tonya star’s production company LuckyChap Entertainment and by a female-led creative team. Robbie has been outspoken about working with women in the industry as well as shine a light on female stories.

“I’m taking a lot of meetings with the lesser-known talent at the moment, the indie film-makers, first- and second-time film-makers, mainly women,” Robbie told the Australian Associated Press in Sydney. “I’m in a lovely position where I can actually help get things greenlit so I want to work with people who we haven’t seen yet.”

Each of the 10 stand-alone episodes will be based on a different work Shakespeare, but with a modern twist.

“We are thrilled about this Australian partnership as an opportunity to showcase unique, distinctly female voices in writing, and to demonstrate the high quality of the Australian film and television industry. The project will share diverse points of view, from writers representing the different cultures and areas within Australia, which many would not readily associate with works of Shakespeare,” said LuckyChap Entertainment in a statement.

The project will be produced in Australia and filming is set to begin in late 2018.

Penned by David Michôd and Joel Edgerton, Chamalet will portray Shakespeare’s monarch. Some of those who tackled the role before him include Kenneth Branagh and Laurence Olivier.

The film will tell of story of the young monarch coronated in the late 1300s after his brother was killed in battle. Henry V reluctantly assumes the throne but rises to the occasion.

The drama is produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B. Michôd also serves as producer alongside Edgerton, and Liz Watts who also produced the Michôd-directed Animal Kingdom and The Rover. Plan B’s Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner will also produce The King.

Riz Ahmed and screenwriter Mike Leslie, who worked on the screenplays for Justin Kurtzel’s Macbeth and Assassin’s Creed, have been working on this version.

Star of the Night Of and One, Ahmed revealed last year his dream of doing “Hamlet” during a Q&A on Twitter might actually get his chance to do so on one of the biggest streaming  platforms.

With Netflix financing and distributing, the plan is for Ahmed to star as the tragic protagonist and for Jim Wilson to produce. This take of the classic will take place in modern-day London. The story will weave themes of familial honor, moral duty, and dynastic corruption.

Ahmed was the first man of South Asian descent to win an Emmy winning the best actor in a limited series or movie earlier this year for his role in The Night Of.
