Deadline has confirmed that Timothée Chamalet will star as the title character in Netflix’s The King. The actor has been nominated for an Oscar for his role as Elio in Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name.
Penned by David Michôd and Joel Edgerton, Chamalet will portray Shakespeare’s monarch. Some of those who tackled the role before him include Kenneth Branagh and Laurence Olivier.
The film will tell of story of the young monarch coronated in the late 1300s after his brother was killed in battle. Henry V reluctantly assumes the throne but rises to the occasion.
The drama is produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B. Michôd also serves as producer alongside Edgerton, and Liz Watts who also produced the Michôd-directed Animal Kingdom and The Rover. Plan B’s Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner will also produce The King.
