One of the buzziest limited series of 2024, Baby Reindeer saw comedian Richard Gadd retelling the harrowing true story of dealing with a disturbed stalker who forced him to face his darkest traumas.
Nobody Wants This made people fall in love with romantic comedies all over again after captivating the audience with the quirky love story between an unconventional rabbi and a brutally honest dating podcaster.
The adaptation of the hit video game Fallout was a long time coming, and it lived up to our expectations. It takes us to a post-apocalyptic future where most survivors live in the fallout bunkers – including the young woman named Lucy, until she dares to step outside and explore LA’s wasteland.
2024 has been a pretty slow year for Marvel, but it’s given us one of the best Disney+ series in recent memory – the WandaVision spin-off which saw Agatha Harkness forming her own coven in an attempt to escape Westview.
Shōgun wowed us with the tale of Japan’s violent feudal past, told through the lens of two ambitious men from different worlds – a powerful Lord Toranaga battling his political rivals and English sailor John Blackthorne, who ends up shipwrecked in Japan.
Shōgun came into this year’s Emmys with a total of 25 nods, including eight in the major categories. It collected 14 awards at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards a week prior, breaking the record previously held by John Adams, before winning four more awards at the main event for a total of 18.
Shōgun defeated The Crown, Fallout, The Gilded Age, The Morning Show, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Slow Horses, and 3 Body Problem to be named the outstanding drama series. Its leading duo Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai won acting awards for their respective performances, while Frederick E. O. Toye collected the trophy for best directing for a drama series.
When it comes to the comedy field, it was a tight race between The Bear and Hacks. The Bear managed to win four awards for 11 overall – most wins for a comedy series in a single year – but it lost the coveted outstanding comedy series award to Hacks.
Netflix’s limited series Baby Reindeer also walked away with four major awards, including outstanding limited or anthology series, outstanding writing, plus acting awards for its main duo Richard Gadd and Jessica Gunning.
The 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 15, with Eugene Levy and Dan Levy hosting the show.
