5 Best New TV Shows That Got Everyone Talking in 2024 https://omgcheckitout.com/5-best-new-tv-shows-that-got-everyone-talking-in-2024/ Mon, 30 Dec 2024 06:30:00 +0000 https://omgcheckitout.com/?p=42505 2024 has been another epic year for fans of television, and it’s given us more amazing TV shows than we can count. From intriguing limited series to fun rom-coms and thrilling historical dramas, here are five shows that everyone seemed to be buzzing about in the past twelve months.

Baby Reindeer (Netflix)

One of the buzziest limited series of 2024, Baby Reindeer saw comedian Richard Gadd retelling the harrowing true story of dealing with a disturbed stalker who forced him to face his darkest traumas.

Nobody Wants This (Netflix)

Nobody Wants This made people fall in love with romantic comedies all over again after captivating the audience with the quirky love story between an unconventional rabbi and a brutally honest dating podcaster.

Fallout (Amazon Prime Video)

The adaptation of the hit video game Fallout was a long time coming, and it lived up to our expectations. It takes us to a post-apocalyptic future where most survivors live in the fallout bunkers – including the young woman named Lucy, until she dares to step outside and explore LA’s wasteland.

Agatha All Along (Disney+)

2024 has been a pretty slow year for Marvel, but it’s given us one of the best Disney+ series in recent memory – the WandaVision spin-off which saw Agatha Harkness forming her own coven in an attempt to escape Westview.

Shōgun (FX/Hulu)

Shōgun wowed us with the tale of Japan’s violent feudal past, told through the lens of two ambitious men from different worlds – a powerful Lord Toranaga battling his political rivals and English sailor John Blackthorne, who ends up shipwrecked in Japan.

Wicked emerged as the top contender in the movie field with five nods, while Shōgun is leading the way on the television side with five nominations.

Wicked is one of the contenders for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture, but it will have to beat some tough competition to take the trophy home. The list of nominees also includes the indie dramedy Anora, the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, the Papal mystery Conclave, and the musical crime comedy Emilia Pérez.

Wicked stars Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, and Jonathan Bailey all received acting nods in their respective categories. Wicked is also in the running for outstanding performance by a stunt ensemble in a motion picture, which brings its total number of nominations to five.

After dominating the Golden Globes earlier this week, Shōgun will also be a top contender at the SAG Awards. It received a nod for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series, while its stars Tadanobu Asano, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Anna Sawai scored acting nods for their respective performances.

2024 Emmy Awards: “Shōgun” Shatters Emmy Records With 18 Wins https://omgcheckitout.com/2024-emmy-awards-shogun-shatters-emmy-records-with-18-wins/ Mon, 16 Sep 2024 06:00:00 +0000 https://omgcheckitout.com/?p=42319 The Primetime Emmy Awards returned to Los Angeles on Sunday night, and this year’s ceremony was one for history books. Shōgun shattered records with a total of 18 trophies, while the list of major winners also included Baby Reindeer, The Bear, and Hacks.

Shōgun came into this year’s Emmys with a total of 25 nods, including eight in the major categories. It collected 14 awards at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards a week prior, breaking the record previously held by John Adams, before winning four more awards at the main event for a total of 18.

Shōgun defeated The Crown, Fallout, The Gilded Age, The Morning Show, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Slow Horses, and 3 Body Problem to be named the outstanding drama series. Its leading duo Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai won acting awards for their respective performances, while Frederick E. O. Toye collected the trophy for best directing for a drama series.

When it comes to the comedy field, it was a tight race between The Bear and Hacks. The Bear managed to win four awards for 11 overall – most wins for a comedy series in a single year – but it lost the coveted outstanding comedy series award to Hacks.

Netflix’s limited series Baby Reindeer also walked away with four major awards, including outstanding limited or anthology series, outstanding writing, plus acting awards for its main duo Richard Gadd and Jessica Gunning.

The 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 15, with Eugene Levy and Dan Levy hosting the show.

2024 Primetime Emmy Awards: “The Bear” & “Shōgun” Among Top Contenders https://omgcheckitout.com/2024-primetime-emmy-awards-the-bear-shogun-among-top-contenders/ Thu, 18 Jul 2024 06:00:00 +0000 https://omgcheckitout.com/?p=42234 After a lot of anticipation, the Television Academy finally unveiled the list of Primetime Emmy Awards contenders on Wednesday morning. Shōgun and The Bear are leading the way with over 20 nominations each, while the list of nominees also includes True Detective and Baby Reindeer.

After dominating the latest Emmy Awards, The Bear is entering the next round even stronger. It broke the Emmys’ record for most nominations for a single season of a comedy series with a total of 23 nods across Primetime Emmy and Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

The Bear will try to win another trophy for the outstanding comedy series, but it will have to face tough competition in Abbott Elementary, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Hacks, Only Murders in the Building, Palm Royale, Reservation Dogs, and What We Do in Shadows.

When it comes to the drama field, Shōgun emerged as the absolute leader with 25 nominations. It’s competing against The Crown, Fallout, The Gilded Age, The Morning Show, Mr & Mrs Smith, Slow Horses, and 3 Body Problem for the coveted outstanding drama trophy.

True Detective: Night Country is leading the way in the limited/anthology series categories with a total of 19 nods, including outstanding limited or anthology series, plus acting nods for its stars Jodie Foster and Kali Reis.

The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards will take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California on September 15.
