]]>While further details remain unknown, it is highly likely that the star of the first two Sister Act movies, Whoopi Goldberg, won’t be part of Sister Act 3. Disney reportedly wants to do a soft reboot with a whole new cast opposed to filming a proper sequel.
“It is our understanding that this is not a continuation and Whoopi is not involved,” a representative for Goldberg told the EW.
The first Sister Act movie was released in 1992, starring Whoopi Goldberg as Deloris Van Cartier, a nightclub lounge singer who joins a convent as part of witness protection program. It became one of the most commercially successful comedy movies of the decade, earning more than $230 million while receiving positive reviews from the critics. After the success of the first movie, a sequel, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, was released the following year.
Since then, Goldberg expressed interest in making Sister Act 3, wanting to direct the project as well, but those plans never materialized.

]]>Looks like she might be donning her habit again for her third installment of Sister Act reprising one of her most iconic role as Sister Deloris, the lounge singer-turned-nun.
According to Entertainment Tonight, the 62-year-old actress is still very much interested in making Sister Act 3. The original film hit our screens in 1992 and was a huge success, garnering a cult following. It was then followed by a sequel a year later.
Whoopi Goldberg and Tyler Perry both appeared on Andy Cohen’s talk show Watch What Happens Live this week to promote Perry’s Nobody’s Fool starring Goldberg and Tiffany Haddish. Perry, it seems, is already thinking of a joint Goldberg — Haddish sequel, “The two of them in Sister Act, that should happen. Let’s make it happen,” he insisted.
Cohen persisted, suggesting that Perry take a more active role in the potential sequel. “Can’t you buy the rights to Sister Act?” he asked the producer. “That’s exactly what I was thinking. I was sitting here thinking, Tiffany Haddish, Whoopi in Sister Act,” Perry said. “We’ll go get ‘em!”
