According to The Hollywood Reporter, the medical drama centers on Bush’s character — a gifted heart surgeon, and her relationship with her domineering father, who happens to work in the same hospital. Oh yeah — he’s also impossible to please and has never acknowledged Sam’s talents.

Second in command to him and always in his shadow, Sam rises to the occasion when he falls into a coma and she takes charge of the department as chief of surgery. Sam comes into her own professionally and personally, however, her world is upturned again after Griff awakens and wants to practice again, even if it means being supervised by his daughter.

Bush’s other television credits include Love, Victor and This Is Us.

The conspiracy thriller hailed from Matt Reeves, David C. White, Patricia Riggen and 20th Century Fox TV, which co-produced with CBS TV Studios. Riggen directed the pilot from a script penned by White. 

According to Variety, the drama pilot generated buzz and “tested through the roof” and even has significant support within the network, but CBS eventually decided that it wasn’t a good fit. 

Surveillance was described as “a complex and timely spy thriller centered around the head of communications for the NSA (Bush), a charming operative who finds her loyalties torn between protecting the government’s secrets and her own.”

CBS has picked up eight pilots to series for its 2019-2020 season: Evil, All Rise, FBI: Most Wanted, Tommy, Bob Hearts Abishola, Broke, Carol’s Second Act and The Unicorn.
