Marvel has several promising movies on the way in 2025, including Thunderbolts*, which will see a group of our favorite vigilantes join forces to embark on an epic mission by each other’s side.
Gareth Edwards is getting ready to revive the Jurassic World franchise with this standalone sequel about a team of scientists trying to extract dinosaur DNA, led by Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey.
James Gunn created a lot of buzz for his version of Superman with a teaser trailer released this month, which sees Clark Kent trying to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with the way he was brought up on Earth.
July will be a great month for superhero movies and it will also mark the return of the Fantastic Four. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach will play the members of this superhero team, as they try to protect their home from Galactus and the Silver Surfer.
After years in the making, the third film in the Avatar franchise is finally coming our way in December, and it will take us back to the mysterious land of Pandora.
]]>The new version of Superman will see Clark Kent trying to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his life on Earth. The first trailer shows him experiencing love and loss and becoming the hero in the eyes of the masses, while also making a few enemies along the way.
According to Gunn, Superman won’t be an origin story because we know enough about this character to immediately swing into action by his side.
“We just start in the middle of the action. Superman’s already existing. Lois and Clark already know each other. Lex hates Superman’s guts from the beginning, although they don’t know each other personally,” Gunn told The Wrap.
He cited Richard Donner’s 1978 classic Superman and the comic book series All-Star Superman as a major influence on his film. Gunn also added it will be tonally different from his previous projects, such as The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy, adding it’s still humorous but more “grounded”.
In addition to Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, the cast of this film will also include Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, and Alan Tudyk.
Superman will be released on July 11, 2025, as the first film of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
Superman in the new film has been described as “the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned”, and we’ll get to see him trying to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his upbringing as Clark Kent in Smallville, Kansas.
David Corenswet is gearing up to lead this film, and the first-look photo shows him putting on his suit, while a giant pink beam flies over the night sky, threatening to destroy the city. Gunn first shared the photo on the social media platform Threads and wrote, “The above photo was taken on set by Jess Miglio and was entirely in-camera.”
Superman is scheduled to hit the theaters on July 11, 2025, and its cast also includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Milly Alcock as Supergirl, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern/Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.

Gunn took to Twitter to discuss the future of DC after taking over the company alongside Peter Safran. He said that the new Superman movie, which focuses on the earlier part of the hero’s life, is on DC’s future slate. Considering the subject matter, the project won’t include Cavill, but Gunn added they had “a great meeting” with the actor to talk about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.
Cavill confirmed his exit in an emotional post on social media, only a few months after announcing his return. The actor admitted it’s not the easiest to share this news, but wished Gunn and Safran the best of luck as they build a new DC universe.
“Superman is still around. Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there! My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will. It’s been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards,” wrote the actor.

Cavill made his debut as Clark Kent in Man of Steel and reprised the role in Batman v. Superman and Justice League. His contract was coming to a closure, and his future in the DC Universe became uncertain after it became clear the studio isn’t planning to make a stand-alone Superman movie any time soon.
Contract negotiations led to Cavill’s departure from the struggling superhero franchise, and he’s not the only one jumping ship. Ben Affleck is another hero on his way out, and it’s highly unlikely he’ll reprise his role in the upcoming Batman stand-alone film.
Rumors started flying around all over the place after Cavill’s departure made headlines. Insiders are saying the studio is trying to shift focus to the highly anticipated Supergirl movie and reset the whole DC Universe they’ve been building for the last few years. It’s still unclear how Superman fits into this equation, and Warner Bros. reps are keeping things tightly under wraps.
“While no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films, we’ve always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged,” said Warner Bros. spokesperson.
]]>The prequel series is set a good few generations before Superman’s home planet is destroyed.
Taking place before the birth of Kal-El, the series will follow Superman’s grandfather Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe) as he struggles to save his home. To make things even more complicated, he must decide whether to save Krypton from destruction, or let it happen in order for his grandson to meet his destiny.
Show runner Cameron Welsh revealed more plot details when he said at San Diego Comic-Con that the series includes a fair share of time travel and a romantic twist for Seg-El with Lyra Zod (Georgina Campbell). Also starring are Elliot Cowan, Ann Ogbomo, Rasmus Hardiker, Wallis Day, Aaron Pierre, and Ian McElhinney.
Executive produced by David Goyer (The Dark Knight)
