This marks the first time The Beatles have granted their full life stories and music rights for a scripted film. Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison agreed to join forces with Mendes, Sony Pictures, and Apple Corps Ltd. to bring their story to the big screen.

Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group CEO Tom Rothman described this project as a “culturally seismic” theatrical event and thanked Mendes for approaching them with this daring, large-scale idea.

“Pairing his premiere filmmaking team, with the music and the stories of four young men who changed the world, will rock audiences all over the globe. We are deeply grateful to all parties and look forward ourselves to breaking some rules with Sam’s uniquely artistic vision,” said Rothman in a statement.

The Beatles were formed in Liverpool in 1960, and they went down in history as one of the most iconic rock bands of all time. They went their separate ways in 1970, but shared many previously unreleased songs following their split, including last year’s “Now and Then”.

John Lennon originally recorded a demo for “Now and Then” in the late 1970s, but the song remained unfinished and unheard for five decades. The initial plan to include it in The Beatles Anthology project in 1995 fell apart because extracting Lennon’s vocals proved to be a mission impossible at the time.

A breakthrough finally came years later with the introduction of AI-powered audio restoration technology, used by Peter Jackson in his documentary The Beatles: Get Back. According to the band’s press release, this song reflects their endless creative curiosity and shared fascination with technology.

“It marks the completion of the last recording that John, Paul, George, and Ringo will get to make together and celebrates the legacy of the foremost and most influential band in popular music history,” reads The Beatles’ official statement.

In addition to introducing The Beatles to the AI technology that made “Now and Then” possible, Peter Jackson also directed the music video for this song, which features unseen footage from various chapters of the band’s illustrious career.

The creator of one of the most iconic album covers ever, John Kosh, talks about that day fifty years ago the Beatles walked across a street in London for a photoshoot.

Kosh told Rolling Stone that since the album was initially planned to follow the White Album, he came up with the idea of having four separate portraits of the group against a black background for contrast. “They were kind of falling apart, and that was supposed to be their swan song,” he says. “So a ‘black’ album was my answer to the White Album. It was supposed to be the last thing they were going to do. Was I wrong!”

When Abbey Road replaced Get Back (known at the time of its release as Let It Be)on the release schedule, Kosh had to come up with a new cover in a matter of two days. “We had a deadline,” he said. “We had to go to press and the album was late and you just had to deal with it.”

Kosh decided to use the shots taken on the street of the same name and not to use the band’s name on the cover. “We thought, if you didn’t know the Beatles by now, where have you been?” he added.

The singer-songwriter turned actor will play himself in Boyle’s upcoming feature. The film is about a songwriter who wakes up one morning to learn that he is the only person left in the whole world who remembers The Beatles.

The Beatles’ inspired story was written by Richard Curtis. Himesh Patel will play the lead and Sheeran will find Patel’s character and bring him along on tour. Patel will then become a superstar by playing the Beatles’ music. It sounds far out but equally, brilliant.

“It’s very clever,” said Sheeran. “They shot it around loads of my gigs. So it was a very intense two months. Because I would have four days of gigging and then three days of shooting a film. I was playing myself, so I don’t think I was that bad. There wasn’t much to [mess] up.”

The currently untitled movie will be Ed Sheeran’s first major acting role. Production and release dates are yet to be confirmed.

The former Beatle surprised fans when he reenacted the famous Abbey Road crossing from the group’s 1969 album.

The 76-year-old music sensation was spotted in London, England retaking the now historic walk across Abbey Road, just as he did with fellow Beatles George Harrison, Ringo Starr and John Lennon almost fifty years ago. 

Lucky for fans who weren’t fortunate enough to witness the walk live, McCartney posted the nostalgia-filled video to his Instagram account (luckily his daughter Mary was there to film it!). This time around McCartney was clad in maroon pants, a white button-up and a blazer slung over his shoulder, and unlike in the original, he also opted for some footwear. 

Just over a month ago, McCartney announced that he will be releasing his 17th solo album titled Egypt Station. The record is set to be released on 7 September 2018.

According to CNN, this year more than 1,100 people will be honored by the Queen including 551 women. The list of “extraordinary” politicians, academics, journalists, athletes and artists is compiled by the government and approved by the monarch

E! news confirmed that the former Beatles member is being recognized for his contribution to charity and service to music.

In a statement released by Starr after learning about his award he said, “It’s great! “It’s an honor and a pleasure to be considered and acknowledged for my music and my charity work, both of which I love. Peace and love. Ringo.”

Starr is the second Beatle to be chosen for the honor with Paul McCartney receiving the honor nearly 20 years ago.

Recipients will be celebrated at a ceremony headed by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.
