]]>Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who created this series for Netflix, said they’re “thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion,” and promised they’ll push the characters to their absolute limit in the final season.
Netflix also announced that Season 4 kicked off production, with Liam Hemsworth in the lead role. He’s stepping in for Henry Cavill, who made the shocking decision to leave this series after its third season.
Hemsworth will serve as a co-lead alongside Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan, and he’s excited to step into The Witcher world.
“As a Witcher fan, I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honored that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure,” said Hemsworth when his casting was first announced.
Joey Batey, Mimî M. Khayisa, Anna Shaffer, Royce Pierreson, Wilson Mbomio, and Mahesh Jadu are also expected to return in Season 4, along with the new cast member Laurence Fishburne.

]]>In an official statement announcing his departure, Cavill said that his journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and he wished Hemsworth the best of luck exploring the depth of this character.
“As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men,” said Cavill.
Hemsworth described the fellow actors as “an incredible Geralt”, adding that he’s honored that he’s allowing him to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. He’s best known as the star of the Hunger Games franchise, and his recent credits include Isn’t It Romantic and Poker Face.
The news of Cavill’s departure comes shortly after he made a cameo as Superman in Black Adam, and announced his return to the DCU. We’ll get to watch him as Geralt of Rivia when Season 3 of The Witcher returns to Netflix next year.

]]>It does attempt to deliver from the off with bloody battles, gratuitous nudity, multiple characters and a lead with Targareyon-esque long white hair. It is unfair to expect it to live up to the grandiose expectations with a lower budget, but what it does deliver is a thoroughly enjoyable fantasy adventure that leaves you wanting more.
Our eponymous hero is played by Superman himself Henry Cavil, who although not actually made of steel, carries the same aura of invincibility. His outfit is far cooler and grittier, as is his demeanor. The Witcher prefers to grunt both approvingly and disapprovingly as often as possible rather than offering self-righteous words of advice.
Witchers are effectively genetically engineered part-elf mercenaries who move from village to village slaying monsters for a fee. They are outcasts in the human world, as humans fear and distrust all things elven. This gives free rein to plenty of fisticuffs, at least one spectacular monster kill per episode, and yes, there are dragons.
The Witcher is set in a time dominated by the ongoing conquests of the evil Nilfgardians, intent on taking over everything in the land. In the first episode, we meet them for the first time as they conquer Queen Calanthe, a battle-hardy warrior queen who is part Boudicia and part Yara Greyjoy.
The Queen’s fleeing granddaughter is one of the main characters and we follow her journey as she grows from a pampered little princess to a survivor. She has undeveloped hidden magical abilities and is destined to eventually meet up with the Witcher.
Our third main character is Yennifer. A bitter and deformed pig tender who discovers her magical ability when she accidentally opens a portal and ends up in a school for witches. It is through her story that we meet the council for the wizarding world and come to understand their importance in the forthcoming battles against the Nifgardians.
Yennifer’s battles with her self go side by side with her development of power, which leads to an interesting albeit slightly formulaic character arc. We are never really sure if she is good or bad. Naturally, she also rather disappointingly becomes beautiful and ends up in bed with The Witcher.
Overall, despite the many side characters and multiple time jumps, the story holds together well. It is clearly a first season designed to pave the way for future bigger scale storylines and leaves the viewer satisfied while also craving more.

In addition to Murder Mystery, the list of the most-watched movies in the US also included 6 Underground and The Irishman. Some of the movies that made the cut, including The Incredibles 2 and Wreck-It Ralph 2, aren’t Netflix originals, and they’ll leave this platform in the following months.

]]>According to the official synopsis released by Netflix, Henry Cavill will play Geralt of Rivia – a mutated monster hunter, who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts.
This exciting project will have no trouble finding viewers since it’s based on a very popular fantasy franchise. The Witcher started its life in Poland back in the ‘90s, as a series of short stories and novels by Andrzej Sapkowski.
They were later adapted into a film, a television series, video games, and graphic novels. The Witcher Saga gained a cult following in Central and Eastern Europe and the games became so popular they sold over 33 million copies worldwide.
Netflix’s upcoming series will bring this franchise to an even wider audience. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will serve as the show-runner, and Henry Cavill was always her first choice for this role.
“He was my first meeting. I didn’t have writers or scripts yet – just a green light and a lot of passion. That was four months ago, and I’ve never forgotten the passion he brought. He IS Geralt. He always has been,” wrote Schmidt Hissrich on Twitter.
