Wicked emerged as the top contender in the movie field with five nods, while Shōgun is leading the way on the television side with five nominations.

The list of nominees also includes the indie dramedy Anora, the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, the Papal mystery Conclave, and the musical crime comedy Emilia Pérez.

Wicked stars Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, and Jonathan Bailey all received acting nods in their respective categories. Wicked is also in the running for outstanding performance by a stunt ensemble in a motion picture, which brings its total number of nominations to five.

After dominating the Golden Globes earlier this week, Shōgun will also be a top contender at the SAG Awards. It received a nod for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series, while its stars Tadanobu Asano, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Anna Sawai scored acting nods for their respective performances.

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande Head to Oz in “Wicked” Trailer https://omgcheckitout.com/cynthia-erivo-and-ariana-grande-head-to-oz-in-wicked-trailer/ Thu, 16 May 2024 06:31:00 +0000 https://omgcheckitout.com/?p=42169 Wicked is one of the most beloved musicals to ever hit Broadway, and its live-action adaptation is finally coming our way this year. Universal gave us a taste of things to come with a brand-new trailer, that sees Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande heading to the Land of Oz.

Wicked chronicles the adventures of two young witches who forge an unlikely but profound friendship during their time at Shiz University— Elphaba (Erivo), who’s misunderstood because of her unusual green skin, and Glinda (Grande), Elphaba’s privileged and ambitious roommate.

Their lives will take different paths after they meet the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, who sets them on a course to fulfill their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

“Glinda’s unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power, while Elphaba’s determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences on her future,” reads Universal’s official logline.

In addition to Erivo and Grande in the lead roles, the star-studded cast of Wicked also includes Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Bowen Yang, and Peter Dinklage. It will hit the theaters just in time for Thanksgiving, on November 27, while Part Two is scheduled for the 2025 release.

5 Trailers That Stole the Show at Super Bowl LVIII https://omgcheckitout.com/5-trailers-that-stole-the-show-at-super-bowl-lviii/ Mon, 12 Feb 2024 06:58:00 +0000 https://omgcheckitout.com/?p=41398 Trailers have always been one of the best parts of the Super Bowl, and Sunday night’s game gave us quite a few. From Deadpool & Wolverine to Wicked, here are five of the most anticipated new films teased during the Big Game.

Deadpool & Wolverine

Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool will finally become a part of the MCU in the third film in this franchise, and he’ll have a formidable ally by his side in no one other than Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.

Wicked

The long-awaited big-screen adaptation of Wicked is finally hitting the theaters this year, and Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo star as Glinda and Elphaba in the first trailer for this film.

Twisters

Lee Isaac Chung’s sequel to Twister sees Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, and Anthony Ramos trying to tame the immense power of tornadoes and survive another natural disaster.

The Fall Guy

The Fall Guy will star Ryan Gosling as a past-his-prime stuntman who gets a taste of real-life action, and this film has “everything” according to its Super Bowl ad.

A Quiet Place: Day One

A Quiet Place: Day One trailer hit the shelves a few days before airing during the Big Game, and it captures the origin story of noise-sensitive creatures that went on to wipe out most of humanity in the original film.

“Wicked” Director Shares First Look at Ariana Grande & Cynthia Erivo https://omgcheckitout.com/wicked-director-shares-first-look-at-ariana-grande-cynthia-erivo/ Mon, 17 Apr 2023 06:11:00 +0000 https://omgcheckitout.com/?p=40206 After a successful run on Broadway, Wicked is finally coming to the big screen and it’s already exceeding our expectations. The film’s director Jon M. Chu gave us a first glimpse of Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in character as Elphaba and Galinda.

The first photo of Erivo as Elphaba aka the Wicked Witch of the West sees her in full green makeup, with a broom in hand. Grande’s Glinda aka the Good Witch of the North is wearing a spectacular pink dress while strolling up a dramatic staircase.

Chu captioned the photo with the words, “You weren’t told the whole story. What happens when you veer off the Yellow Brick Road?” He also praised Erivo and Grande, saying “they will lift your spirits, break your heart and leave you speechless with their voices.”

Wicked is loosely based on L. Frank Baum’s beloved novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and marks the first attempt to adapt the iconic musical to the big screen. In an attempt to fully capture the story, Chu decided to divide it into two films.

Wicked: Part One will hit the theatres on November 27, 2024, and its cast will also include Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, and Bowen Yang.

Jonathan Bailey Joins Ariana Grande & Cynthia Erivo in “Wicked” Adaptation https://omgcheckitout.com/jonathan-bailey-joins-ariana-grande-cynthia-erivo-in-wicked-adaptation/ Thu, 22 Sep 2022 06:41:00 +0000 https://omgcheckitout.com/?p=39524 Wicked is the latest cult Broadway musical to get Hollywood treatment, and its cast is shaping up to be pretty amazing. Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey will join Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in the two-part adaptation in the role of Fiyero.

Based on the characters from The Wizard of Oz, Wicked follows two young witches Elphaba and Glinda. The story starts off with them being unlikely friends, but life later takes them in different directions and they go on to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch.

Bailey will play Fiyero, the love interest of both Elphaba and Glinda. Variety announced his casting, and the director Jon M. Chu confirmed it on Twitter, saying he’s “too excited to pretend this hasn’t been happening”.

Earlier this year, Chu announced that Wicked will be divided into two parts, set to be released on Christmas Day in 2024 and 2025, in an attempt to do justice to the source material.

“We decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one Wicked movie but two! With more space, we can tell the story of Wicked as it was meant to be told while bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys for these beloved characters,” he said in a statement.
