“Top Gun: Maverick” Release Pushed Back One Year

It will be a while before we get to see Tom Cruise back in the cockpit.

Paramount Pictures announced Wednesday that its Top Gun sequel has been pushed back nearly a year. The film, which was supposed to be released in July 2019, is now set to hit theaters on June 2020.

According to ET the studio’s decision to delay the release of Top Gun: Maverick is to allow time to put more work into the complex flight sequences as the production has to figure out the logistics of presenting new and modern technology and planes.

The film will explore the fate of dogfighting in a new era of drone technology. Both Cruise and Val Kilmer will reprise their roles for the sequel to the 1986 hit drama. A massive success, it grossed more than $350 million on a $15 million budget.

Cruise will portray a flight instructor and his protege will be none other than Goose’s son played by Mike Teller. Jon Hamm, Ed Harris, Lewis Pullman, Charles Parnell, Jay Ellis, Bashir Salahuddin, Danny Ramirez, and Monica Barbaro round out the cast.
