Troian Bellisario On Eating Disorder and How it Inspired Her New Film ‘Feed’

Troian Bellisario is giving the world a glimpse into her personal struggles with eating disorder in her upcoming film, Feed, which she wrote and stars in.

The 31-year-old star sat down with Pretty Little Liars director Lesli Linka Glatter for Interview magazine, where she discusses her new film and her own recovery and battle with an eating disorder.

“I found there were so many people who thought that it was about losing weight or being skinny, and I couldn’t quite get them to understand that it was about control on a very, very literal level,” Bellisario revealed.

The actress said her eating disorder made her feel very isolated and at times was ever more difficult to get people to understand what she was going through.

“I couldn’t get anyone—even the people who loved me the most, even my boyfriend or my mother or my father—to understand what that experience was truly like for me,” she said.

Troian, who is the daughter of NCIS producer Donald P. Bellisario, also shared the reason behind penning Feed, saying, ‘”If I can tell a story that puts the audience in a position to make a similar choice to the one that I made in my young life, maybe I could get them to empathize.”

She wrote the film before she was in PLL, but the show’s extreme shooting schedule prevented her from putting her focus on it.

“I found myself attempting to communicate something in a scene, and somebody had the realist point of view, where they were like, ‘Can you just say the line? Let’s get a move on because we’ve got to get this,” she explained.

Now that the show is over, she can finally be able to concentrate on something else.

The brunette, who is married to Suits star Patrick J. Adams, will star opposite Harry Potter Tom Felton in the film, which tells the story of “Olivia and Matthew Grey, 18-year-old twins born into a world of privilege and high expectations. There are almost no boundaries between them; even their dreams are connected,” according to IMDB.

Feed, also starring James Remar and directed by Tommy Bertelsen, is due out in July.
