Fans lost it when Disney announced Moana 2 is hitting the theaters this November, and we’ve just got some more amazing news about this film! Auliʻi Cravalho, who voiced the titular heroine in the first film, will be back as the voice of Moana in the upcoming sequel.
CEO Bob Iger revealed that Moana 2 is coming to theatres on November 27 in a recent interview with CNBC, and that’s not the only amazing news we have about this film. Deadline reports that Auliʻi Cravalho will officially lead the voice cast alongside Dwayne Johnson as Maui.
Despite returning as Moana in this animated sequel, Cravalho won’t star in Disney’s live-action remake, and she’s only coming on board as an executive producer.
“When I was cast as Moana at 14, it wonderfully changed my life and started my career. In this live-action retelling, I will not be reprising the role. I believe it is absolutely vital the casting accurately represents the characters and stories we want to tell,” she explained in a statement when this project was announced last year.
Moana 2 will see the titular heroine embarking on a journey across the far seas after receiving an unexpected call from her ancestors. This sequel was initially conceived as a Disney+ original before the studio decided to shift to a theatrical release date.
