Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia De Rossi were forced to evacuate their pets from their California home due to wildfire threat.
“Our house is under threat of being burned. We just had to evacuate our pets,” DeGeneres, 59, tweeted on Sunday. “I’m praying for everyone in our community and thankful to all the incredible firefighters.”
The couple bought an $18.6 million beachfront house in Carpinteria, located near Santa Barbara, in October. They have several cats and dogs.
“Everyone in the Montecito area is checking up on each other and helping to get people and animals to safety,” the host added. “I’m proud to be a part of this community. I’m sending lots of love and gratitude to the fire department and sheriffs. Thank you all. #ThomasFire.”
The Thomas Fire, one of the few wildfires currently burning in Southern California, has caused road closures, thousands of evacuations, and unhealthy air quality warnings in Santa Barbara County as well as Ventura County. According to the Los Angeles Times, there are roughly 8,500 firefighters battling six wildfires across the southern part of the state and Santa Barbara Zoo was closed to public due to fire.
On Sunday morning, forced evacuations have been ordered to areas around DeGeneres and De Rossi’s home. According to E! News, the pair also own an Italian-style villa in Santa Barbara area that they have been trying to sell at $39.5 million early this year.
Many people who live in the affected areas, including Lea Michele and Paris Hilton, have evacuated their homes in the midst of a threat of another wildfire that raged near hillside homes along 405 freeway.
