Greta Gerwig Shares First Look at Period Drama “Little Women”

Greta Gerwig gave us one of the best coming-of-age films in recent years with Lady Bird, and she’s finally back for more. Her adaptation of the classic novel Little Women is coming to theaters this Christmas, and the acclaimed director finally shared the first look at this highly-anticipated period drama.

The first photos show Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Saoirse Ronan, and Eliza Scanlen taking on the roles of the March sisters, in this timeless story about coming-of-age in the aftermath of the Civil War. We also get to see the rest of the cast – including Timothée Chalamet, Laura Dern and Meryl Streep – bringing their characters to life.

Gerwig shared the exclusive first look with Vanity Fair and explained why she decided to adapt Louisa May Alcott’s classic tale. She always identified with her heroine Jo March, because she was the person Gerwig wanted to be, and that’s why filming Little Women felt like a deeply personal experience.

“This feels like an autobiography. When you live through a book, it almost becomes the landscape of your inner life… It becomes part of you, in a profound way.” said Gerwig while chatting with Vanity Fair.
