Jamie Foxx is in talks to join legal drama Just Mercy.
The feature is helmed by director Destin Daniel Cretton for Warner Bros. Set to produce are Michael B. Jordan with Gil Netter and Arthur Spector.
The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the actor is in negotiations to star opposite Jordan in Just Mercy. The feature is adapted from the memoir of the same name by Bryan Stevenson.
The story follows Stevenson’s work as a young lawyer who founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a company dedicated to defending the poor, the wrongly convicted, women and children. Foxx is set to play Walter McMillian, one of Stevenson’s earliest cases of a black man sentenced to die for a murder he insists he didn’t commit. Despite being surrounded by dozens of witnesses at the time of the murder, McMillian was convicted in a trial that lasted a day and a half and spent six years on death row. Stevenson successfully exonerated McMillian.
Foxx will work on Just Mercy one before he suits up for the new Spawn movie.
