Nicole Kidman went through many amazing transformations throughout her decades-long career, but she’s really outdone herself this time around. First look at her upcoming crime drama Destroyer is here, and the Oscar winner looks barely recognizable without her glamorous blonde hair and flawless Hollywood make-up.
Destroyer tells the story of Los Angeles Police Department officer named Erin Bell. Twenty years after going undercover with a criminal gang, this broken woman tries to reconnect with people from her dark past, so she could finally face her demons and find peace.
Director Karyn Kusama described Kidman’s character as someone who “wears her ugliness on the outside, all that smallness and bitterness.” She believes Erin Bell is a tragic, but ultimately heroic individual and Kidman’s transformation was a crucial part of her journey.
“We always knew that what we wanted her to look like was a real middle-aged woman with a past that she wears on her face. With sun damage and sleep deprivation and stress and rage, just in her whole physical body,” explained Kusama.
Destroyer will be released on December 25 by Annapurna Pictures, and it’s Kusama’s first big screen solo project after critically acclaimed, but criminally underrated The Invitation. In addition to Kidman, it also stars Tatiana Maslany, Sebastian Stan, Toby Kebbell and Bradley Whitford.
