]]>The live-action feature based on David Peterson’s Mouse Guard series is described as Game of Thrones with mice. The series, created, penned and illustrated by Peterson, tells the story of a brotherhood of mice sworn to serve their fellow mice in a medieval world.
Should he join the production, Elba will star opposite Andy Serkis and Thomas Brodie-Sangster who are already on the call sheet. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Elba is in final negotiations to star as legendary champion Celanawe, “an Obi-Wan Kenobi-like figure who was once a legendary champion and now thought long gone.” Serkis is set to portray the villainous blacksmith Midnight and Brodie-Sangster will play Lieam, one of the Mouse Guard’s youngest members, who must prove his bravery.
Set to direct Fox’s adaptation of the Boom! Studios comic is Wes Ball (Maze Runner).
Production is expected to begin late May.

]]>The two have been tapped to star as the leads in Fox’s adaptation, which is based on the Boom! Studios graphic novels. The Mouse Guard series was created, penned and illustrated by David Petersen. It was launched in 2006 and earned wide success.
The feature will use similar technology employed in the Planet of the Apes films, which means motion caption and lots of visual effects. Mouse Guard will be directed by Maze Runner’sWes Ball from a script written by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story scribe Gary Whitta.
Set in medieval times it follows “an order of mice who are the sworn protectors of their realm.” Serkis will portray the Gaurd’s villainous blacksmith, Midnight, and Brodie-Sangster will play Lieam, the Guard’s newest and youngest members.
Producing is Matt Reeves with Ross Richie and Stephen Christy of Boom! Studios and Joe Hartwick Jr.
Production is scheduled to being in the spring.

]]>According to Deadline, Netflix and Andy Serkis have acquired the movie rights to George Orwell’s Animal Farm.
Serkis will helm the adaptation of Orwell’s 1945 allegorical novella. The intention is to bring “Animal Farm to the screen in a thoroughly contemporary fashion, which will highlight the staggering relevance today of the satirical and dramatic power of Orwell’s re-imagined classic.”
Serkis will produce through his Imaginarium production company. Other producers include 6th & Idaho’s Matt Reeves, Rafi Crohn, and Adam Kassan.
“We are incredibly excited to have finally found the perfect creative home in Netflix for this extraordinary zeitgeist work by George Orwell,” Serkis said in a statement. “On top of that, to be reunited with my great friend Matt Reeves — with his acute sensitivity, storytelling intelligence and honesty and command in this realm — is to have the very best scenario for our long-held passion to bring this fable alive.”
