Furiosa takes place years before the events of Mad Max: Fury Road and it sees young Furiosa falling into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus after being snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers.
“Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home,” reads the film’s official synopsis.
Anya Taylor-Joy replaced Charlize Theron as the younger version of Furiosa, and she’ll be joined by Chris Hemsworth as Warlord Dementus. Tom Burke, Alyla Browne, Nathan Jones, Angus Sampson, Quaden Bayles, Daniel Webber, and Lachy Hulme also star in supporting roles.
Furiosa is the fifth installment in the Mad Max franchise, and it sees George Miller returning as director and co-writer alongside Nico Lathouris. It will be released on May 24 via Warner Bros. Pictures.
Taylor-Joy turned heads at the Dune: Part Two premiere in a white Dior silk dress with a hooded veil, and it turned out she wasn’t there just to watch the film but to promote it, as well. She’ll be featured in this space epic in the mystery role, but fans are pretty certain she joined the franchise as Alia Atreides, the sister of Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides.
Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem will also reprise their roles from the previous film, but Taylor-Joy won’t be the only newcomer to the franchise. Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, and Léa Seydoux are also a part of the sequel’s ensemble cast.
Taylor-Joy discussed her casting with the reporters on the red carpet, and described it as “a dream come true”. She revealed that that she’s a huge fan of Frank Herbert’s Dune books, and added that it doesn’t get any better than working with Denis Villeneuve and the film’s incredible cast.
Dune: Part Two will be released internationally on February 28, before hitting the theaters in the US on March 1.
