Multiple outlets report that the feature adaptation of the acclaimed musical from Andrew Lloyd Webber is bound to lose anywhere between $70-$100 million according to rival studio executives and based off a production cost of $90 million net. 

After opening to a very disappointing $6.5 million domestic debut, Cats failed to gain any traction in the box office. 

The feature adaptation of the musical about a tribe of cats called Jellicles and their competition to determine who will receive a new life features a stellar cast pretending to be felines that includes Judi Dench, Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift, Rebel Wilson, James Corden, and Idris Elba.

Taylor Swift is gracing the cover of British Vogue’s January, promoting the new Cats movie, Tom Hooper’s upcoming big-screen adaptation of the long-running musical from Andrew Lloyd Webber. In addition to Swift, the film stars Judi Dench, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson, and James Corden. 

Just a quick reminder — the movie uses “digital fur technology,” which basically upended the internet because it was so damn weird. But the pop-icon loved it!

“I really had an amazing time with Cats,” Swift said. “I think I loved the weirdness of it. I loved how I felt I’d never get another opportunity to be like this in my life.”

Swift recently made history at the 2019 American Music Awards by winning more AMAs than any other artist. The singer also became Billboard’s first-ever Woman of the Decade.

Cats will be released on December 20, 2019.

Swifties and Cats fans can now indulge in Taylor Swift’s original song for the upcoming film version of the Broadway musical.

The singer-songwriter debuts “Beautiful Ghosts,” a song about feeling an outsider, will be performed by the graceful white cat Victoria (Francesca Hayward) in the film.  

The singer-songwriter wrote the song with Andrew Lloyd Webber. 

Webber said of working with Swift, “I think she’s written lyrics that are first, dramatic, and secondly, it’s almost as if she’s read T.S. Eliot herself. Maybe she had because she’s so thorough and professional.”

In addition to writing the song, Swift will also appear in the film as Bombalurina. 

Cats hits theaters on December 20.
