Unveiled as part of Empire‘s 2024 Preview issue, the first image of Murphy as Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop 4 sees him holding his hands up in the air in front of two police officers, while people around them capture the incident on their phones.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer dropped some hints about the upcoming sequel while speaking to Empire. He said that Murphy is pretty brilliant in this sequel because you never know what you’re going to get whenever he walks on set.

He also praised his dynamic with co-star star Joseph Gordon-Levitt, saying they’re hysterical together because he’s such a great straight man to Murphy. Bruckheimer added that the new film is “all about the emotion”, but still promised a lot of great action and funny moments.

The supporting cast of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley includes Kevin Bacon, Taylour Paige, Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser, and Bronson Pinchot, and we’ll see them all in action when this sequel premieres on Netflix next year.

Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall both returned to their respective roles from the first film, and they’re in some pretty good company. The cast of Coming 2 America also includes the likes of Jermaine Fowler, Leslie Jones, Shari Headley, John Amos, Tracy Morgan, Wesley Snipes, and James Earl Jones.

The sequel to the beloved 1988 classic has been announced last year, and it was originally supposed to premiere this summer before a delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Amazon Studios eventually acquired the domestic rights in the U.S., where it’s expected to premiere on Prime Video on March 5th, 2021.

Eddie Murphy is returning to Queens reprising his role as Prince Akeem, an African prince who hopes to find a wife in the United States. 

“After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward…,” Murphy said in a statement. “We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite, and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen.”

Craig Brewer will direct the sequel to the 1988 original from a script penned by Black-ish creator Kenya Barris.

“Craig’s ability to create a distinct cinematic world with each of his films is not only impressive, but also what made him exactly the voice and vision we needed to bring this story to life,” Barris said. “From Hustle and Flow to his work with Eddie on Dolemite Is My Name, he never fails to blow me away. He is a true auteur and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have him on board.”

The news was confirmed Murphy’s rep on Monday. The statement revealed the newborn’s name — Max Charles Murphy. According to People Magazine, the baby’s middle name is in homage to Murphy’s brother, actor Charlie Murphy, who died of leukemia last year. Max Charles joins the couple’s 2-year-old daughter, Izzy Oona Murphy.

The statement added that the mother and 6 pounds, 11 ounces baby are doing just fine.

The actor and the Australian model have been dating since 2012, and they recently became engaged.

In addition to his two youngest children with Butcher, Murphy has eight older kids — Eric, 29, and Christian, 28, with former girlfriends Paulette McNeely and Tamara Hood, respectively, Bella Zahra, 16, Zola Ivy, 18, Shayne Audra, 23, Bria, 28, and Miles Mitchell, 25, with ex-wife Nicole Mitchell Murphy and Angel Iris Murphy Brown, 11, with Spice Girls Mel B.

The things get even worse when an attractive female neighbor moves in across the street. If he says yes to the project, Murphy will play either Lemmon or Matthau’s character.

Grumpy Old Men remake will be directed by Tim Story (Ride Along), while John Davis, who produced the original and its sequel, will return in the same role for this project as well. The rest of the cast and the release date for the movie remain unknown.

In 1995, a sequel titled Grumpier Old Men was released to even more negative reviews. Still, the audience once again responded well to the follow-up, and it had similar commercial success like the original.

Murphy is no stranger to fatherhood since he already has nine kids with five different women. His first marriage to Nicole Mitchell lasted for over a decade and the couple welcomed five children together – son Miles and daughters Bria, Shayne, Zola, and Bella. He also has two sons from his previous relationship with Tamara Hood and Paulette McNeely, and an 11-year-old daughter Angel with Spice Girl Mel B.

Murphy previously described his kids as the brightest part of his life. The actor said his world revolves around them – even the old, gray bald ones. Of course, his kids only range in age from 29 to 2 years.
