The film that featured a female Ghostbusters team starred Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, and Leslie Jones and their clueless assistant, Kevin (Hemsworth). 

The Avengers: Endgame star has some serious doubts concerning the role, as he thought there was no depth to the character. 

“The night before I was shooting, I almost pulled out,” Hemsworth told the outlet. “Three or four weeks prior, Paul [Feig] said to me, ‘I’m going to write up the character. Don’t worry.’ And then I got the script and nothing had changed.”

But then his agent set up a last-minute meeting with Feig, who told Hemsworth that he’ll have lots to do with the character via improvisation.

“I was really scared walking onto that set,” Hemsworth added. “I had no real plan, so I was just feeding off of them, and I just felt ridiculous. So I used that.”

Hemsworth also shared with the outlet that he’s still quite upset about the backlash the film suffered, partly because the Ghostbusters team was played by women.

“That whole period I was like, ‘What ownership do you guys have over those characters?’” Hemsworth said. “‘Oh, you watched the film, therefore you should have a say over where it goes?’ I thought it was very unfortunate and kind of disappointing.”

The forthcoming feature is described as being a sequel to the 1980s movies. Co-writing the script is Reitman Gil Kenan. Reitman will also direct, and all that is known about the remake is centered on a family headed by a single mother.

News of Grace’s casting comes just after it was reported that Carrie Coon is in talks to play the mom and Finn Wolfhard is in negotiations to play her son. Grace will play Coon’s single mother’s daughter. 

The feature is due to go before cameras this summer and is dated for a July 10, 2020, release.

Variety reports that Carrie Coon and Finn Wolfhard are in talks to join Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters. The film is said to focus on a single mom and her family, and should Coon and Wolfhard they are set to star as a mother-son duo. Filmmakers are currently working on casting the rest of the family

While very little is known about the story, it is known that the film will ignore Paul Feig’s 2016 female-led film.

The movie is set to go into production this summer, and is expected to hit theaters July 2020.

Multiple sources report that the next installment in the successful Ghostbusters franchise will be direct by Jason Reitman, son of the original Ghostbusters director, Ivan Reitman. Ivan helmed the original, released in 1984, which starred  Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and the late Harold Ramis.

Reitman also co-wrote the script with Gil Kenan and shooting is scheduled to begin this summer. The film will be a sequel of sorts to the original and will not be connected to the Paul Feig-directed 2016 reboot, which starred Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones. 

The project has been kept in almost complete secrecy until now. Additional details have yet to be released and it is unknown if any of the original cast members will be involved. 

The film is expected to hit theaters in the summer of 2020.
