According to its official logline, the new series series “follows Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film.”
Reese Witherspoon, who played Elle Woods in the original film, announced Minetree’s casting back in February. She shared an emotional clip breaking the news to the young actress, who later thanked her for entrusting her with this role and promised that Elle is in good hands.
Minetree’s previous credits include roles in Law & Order: SVU, The Murdaugh Murders, and The Paramedic Who Stalked Me, and this will mark the first leading role of her career. She’ll be joined by Tom Everett Scott as Elle’s father and June Diane Raphael as her mother.
Elle was created for Amazon Prime Video by Laura Kittrell, who serves as its co-showrunner alongside Caroline Drie. Witherspoon, Marc Platt, Lauren Neustadter, and Lauren Kisilevsky are joining them as executive producers.

Gossip Girl developers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are writing the script for Amazon’s new series, which they’ll also executive produce. They’ll be joined by the Legally Blonde producer Marc Platt, plus Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter via Hello Sunshine.
Amazon is keeping the plot details under wraps, and it remains unclear if this series will reunite us with Elle Woods or if it will simply be set in the same universe as the original movie. Deadline reports that Amazon is plotting a second potential spin-off, but this project is still in the “idea stages”.
