]]>A sequel to the 2019 live-action adaptation of the animated classic, Aladdin, is officially happening.
According to sources, the producers took six months to think about the sequel’s direction, but now it seems that they’ve figured it out
The project is in early development at Disney. According to Variety, Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, who produced the original, will be back producing through their Rideback banner, with Ryan Halprin executive producing.
It is unknown if Guy Ritchie will return to direct, and according to the outlet, offers to Will Smith, Mena Massoud, and Naomi Scott, will only go out after the script has been written.
2019’s Aladdin was only the fourth film to cross the billion-dollar global box office milestone. It joined a very exclusive club joining The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast and Alice in Wonderland.

]]>The clip dropped Friday during the Disney+ showcase at the D23 Expo in Anaheim.
The trailer featured the titular pups voiced by Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux as well as Lady’s owners, played by Thomas Mann and Kiersey Clemons. The trailer features a new version of “Bella Notte” and of course that iconic plate of spaghetti and meatballs.
Janelle Monáe, Sam Elliott, Benedict Wong, and more round out the cast.
“Every day could be an adventure. Watch the new trailer for Lady and the Tramp, a reimagining of a timeless classic,” the streaming service shared on social media.
The Disney+ exclusive follows The Lion King, Aladdin, and Dumbo. Forthcoming live-action projects include Mulan and The Little Mermaid.

]]>Multiple outlets confirm that the Oscar-winner is in early negotiations to join the Craig Gillespie-helmed furrier spin-off Cruella.
Should she join, she’ll star opposite Stone, who has been set to play Cruella De Vil, the villain of the animated classic. The character was previously portrayed by Glenn Close in the 1996 live-action film produced by John Hughes.
It is currently unknown what role Thompson would be playing nor the film’s specific storyline.
Gillespie (I, Tonya)is directing from a script by Tony McNamara.
Cruella opens December 23, 2020.

]]>The long-awaited first full trailer for Disney’s live-action remake of its 1994 classic, The Lion King is here.
The trailer, albeit super short, features scenes from Simba’s birth and the African savannah, Simba, and Nala exploring the elephant graveyard, Simba’s exile at the encouragement of his uncle Scar and a glimpse of Simba, Pumbaa and Timon singing together. And from the looks of it, the remake is indeed a near identical take on the animated film.
The film, directed by Jon Favreau (The Jungle Book), features a cast of A-listers including Donald Glover (Simba), Beyoncé (Nala), Seth Rogan (Pumbaa), Billy Eichner (Timon), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Scar), John Oliver (Zazu), and James Earl Jones (returning to voice Mufasa).
The Lion King is one of three Disney classics to go live-action that’ll hit cinemas this year. First was Tim Burton’s Dumbo, released just last month and Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin is slated to premiere in May. The Lion King will debut July 19.

]]>While the teaser trailer revealed that the Guy Ritchie-helmed adaptation of Aladdin is taking its cues from the original animated film, now we learn that the live-action adaptation will also feature new songs, as well as the film’s classic musical repertoire.
Variety reports that Disney’s new adaptation will feature two new tunes added to added to the mix, which will be, according to actor Mena Massoud, who stars as the titular character, ‘empowering’ for women.
The news was teased by Massoud at this year’s GQ Men of the Year party.
“We’ve got all the original music in there, plus a couple of new songs,” Massoud told the outlet. “They’re really empowering. I gotta say one is very empowering for women, I think people are going to really, really dig it. The other one is awesome as well. We got the same guys who did La La Land and The Greatest Showman, we’re in good hands.”
Aladdin stars Will Smith as the Genie, Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, and Navid Negahban as the Sultan.
The film is set to hit theaters May 24, 2019.

]]>The teaser trailer, released on Thursday, breaks previous viewing records to be Disney’s biggest preview with more than 224 million views in the 24 hours following its release.
It looks like people couldn’t get enough of Disney’s live-action but mostly CGI Lion King sneak peek. The Jon Favreau-helmed remake now officially boasts the title of the second most viewed trailer in a single day from any studio, second to the trailer for Avengers: Infinity War, which holds the record with 238 million views.
Disney is really into updating and reinventing its classics. Other live-action remakes include Aladdin and Mulan. The Lion King was released in 1994 and is one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time, with $968.8 million.
The film has tapped major talent to voice star with Donald Glover voicing Simba, Beyoncé voicing Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor voicing Scar, John Oliver voicing Zazu, Seth Rogen voicing Pumbaa, and Billy Eichner voicing Timon.

]]>According to The Hollywood Reporter, a live-action/CG hybrid remake of the Disney classic Lady and the Tramp will be helmed by Charlie Bean. Serving as producer is Brigham Taylor, who worked on The Jungle Book reboot and filmmaker Andrew Bujalski is penning the script.
Set to launch in 2019, the remake won’t be coming to theaters; it’s will debut on the company’s digital streaming service.
The original followed the falling in love story between a spoiled cocker spaniel named Lady, and a streetwise mutt named Tramp. The animated classic also includes the iconic spaghetti kiss.
Disney’s new streaming service will launch in 2019 and feature 4-6 movies a year.

]]>John has opened up to ET about his unexpected performance during the Fall Gala of Elton John AIDS Foundation on Tuesday, at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City.
“It was very exciting, I was a surprise,” the music icon said. “I wasn’t able to be here for the 15th anniversary and it’s been such an important part of my life, it’s opened so many doors for me, and it was just great to see everybody.”
“It was a great get together and very meaningful,” he continued.
John, who wrote and sang some of the most memorable songs on the soundtrack of the 1994 animated movie, treated the audience to a live version of his iconic song “Circle of Life.”
John told ET he hopes he’ll be on board in the upcoming live-action reboot, which is currently in production. “Yes, I think so. I hope so,” he said.
The legendary singer was accompanied by husband David Furnish at the all-star black tie gala in NY, as their charitable foundation celebrated its 25th anniversary of raising funds for programs providing assistance to those living with AIDS/HIV, conducting research into treatment and battling the ongoing global epidemic, according to ET.
