]]>According to the series’ official synopsis, the new version of Cape Fear will be a “tense, contemporary thriller that examines America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century” that revolves around a pair of married attorneys forced to confront their past when a notorious killer is released after spending years behind bars.
Scorsese’s adaptation of John D. MacDonald’s book The Executioners came out in 1991 and featured Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange, Joe Don Baker, and Juliette Lewis. It was the second iteration of the story, following the 1962 film starring Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum, who briefly appeared in Scorsese’s version.
Details about the TV adaptation of Cape Fear are few and far between, but we know that Nick Antosca (The Act) is attached to this project as showrunner and creator. He’ll also executive produce the series alongside Scorsese, Spielberg, and their partners Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey from Amblin Television and Alex Hedlund from Eat the Cat.

]]>Starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci, The Irishman has been watched by more than 26 million global accounts according to Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer. That’s right, Netflix, which is known for not releasing viewership data confirmed that 26,404,081 watched at least 70% of the mobster film in its first seven days on the platform.
Netflix expects about 40 million account holders to watch the film over its first 28 days, Sarandos added.
The Irishman garnered a Golden Globe best drama nomination earlier this week as part of Netflix’s massive Golden Globe haul. The streamer garnered 34 nominations across TV and film, 17 in each.
“It’s a good mark of quality — both for the industry and for consumers, meaning you want to be at that place where all the good stuff is happening,” Sarandos added. “Creators mostly want to be in the culture… and Netflix can do that like nobody else.”

The trailer dropped during The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Wednesday night. De Niro spoke with Fallon about the de-aging process saying, “They didn’t want it to get in our way. And Marty didn’t want that … They had all kinds of cameras taking pictures, a special camera photographing us.”

]]>Director and selection committee chair Kent Jones described Scorsese’s latest directorial effort as “rich, funny, troubling, entertaining and absolutely singular” film, and couldn’t wait to share the amazing news with the public.
“It’s the work of masters, made with a command of the art of cinema that I’ve seen very rarely in my lifetime, and it plays out at a level of subtlety and human intimacy that truly stunned me. All I can say is that the minute it was over my immediate reaction was that I wanted to watch it all over again,” said Jones in a press release.
The Irishman will open the festival on September 27th, and its theatrical release date is yet to be set.
Scorsese’s passion project centers on hitman Frank Sheeran and the crucial moments that defined his mob career. It stars Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, and Bobby Cannavale.

Last year’s recipient of the Carrosse d’Or was Werner Herzog. Previous recipients include Jia Zhangke, Jane Campion, Jim Jarmusch, Clint Eastwood and Alain Resnais. This years’ announcement read that the guild is “proud to celebrate an outstanding and inspiring filmmaker.” Carrosse d’Or recipients are chosen for “innovative qualities, courage and independent-mindedness of his or her work.”
This year’s Directors’ Fortnight marks the last to be helmed by Edouard Waintrop. Taking over in 2019 is Paolo Moretti.
The Cannes Film Festival runs May 8-19.

]]>De Niro plays the role of Frank Sheeran, a mob hitman who is suspected to be associated with the Bufalino crime family and alleged killer of Jimmy Hoffa, a labor union chief who went missing in the 1970s. It is said that Sheeran carried out 25 murders throughout his life as a hitman, according to Metro.
De Niro was seen wearing shoes with thick platform to help combat his shortness. He is 5.8 feet inches in real life, only an inch taller than Pacino, who portrays Hoffa in the film.
Sheeran, nicknamed “The Irishman,” and Hoffa had a big height difference so De Niro had to wear a special pair of shoes to tower over Pacino.
De Niro and Pacino have both starred in The Godfather: Part II in 1970s, Heat in 1995 and Righteous Kill in 2008.
The upcoming film, which is due for release in 2018, marks a reunion between De Niro, Scorsese, and Joe Pesci. The crime drama also stars Anna Paquin and Bobby Cannavale. The project is based on the book, I Heard You Paint Houses by Charles Brand, released in 2004.

For over a decade, DiCaprio and Scorsese have reportedly been trying to develop Roosevelt but faced numerous obstacles that ultimately halted the project.
This would be the third time DiCaprio has starred in a biopic film for Scorsese, following The Aviator in 2004 and 2014’s The Wolf of Wall Street, of which they both earned Oscar nominations. They have also collaborated on The Gangs of New York in 2002, The Departed in 2006 and 2010’s Shutter Island.
Currently, they are in the midst of developing two adaptations of true-crime books, Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann and The Devil in the White City by Erik Larsson. In addition to Roosevelt, The Revenant actor is also slated to star as a New York cop fighting against the Italian mob in The Black Hand, according to W Magazine.
Since winning the Academy Awards two years ago, DiCaprio has not appeared in a narrative film. Instead he focused his time on activism efforts, travelling to vanishing environments for his documentary, Before the Flood.
