]]>Bohemian Rhapsody stars Rami Malek as Queen’s frontman Freddie Mercury and from the looks of it, Malek’s portrayal is absolutely spot on. The sneak peek of the film that chronicles the band’s path to fame showed just how much Malek immersed himself in the role, completely transforming into Mercury, nailing the look as well as the moves.
The project has been long time in the making and Malek wasn’t first pick for the role. It was Sacha Baron Cohen that was originally cast for the leading role, however, exited the production due “creative differences.”
“Basically, they wanted to make a movie about the band and I wanted to make it a little more about Freddie,” Cohen told ET in 2013.
The production suffered another setback when original director Bryan Singer dropped out due to “unexpected unavailability” and replaced by Dexter Fletcher in December 2017.
Bohemian Rhapsody is scheduled to hit theaters October 24 in the UK and November 2 in the US

]]>The network announced the news Wednesday, two day after Bryan Singer’s firing. Production will resume next week with Fletcher hired to take over as director of the Queen biopic.
Fletcher has both acting and directing credits which include Kick-ass, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Eddie the Eagle, Sunshine on Leith, and Wild Bill respectively.
Production on the film was temporarily put on hold due to Singer’s “unexpected unavailability.” However, the absence which resulted in a production shutdown, days later led to Singer’s termination. The ousted director then issued a statement saying that his termination was the result of the production “unwilling to accommodate” his return to the US to tend to a sick family member, and not due to on-set disputed with Rami Malek who star’s as Freddie Mercury.
“Rumors that my unexpected departure from the film was sparked by a dispute I had with Rami Malek are not true,” he writes. “While, at times, we did have creative differences on set, Rami and I successfully put those differences behind us and continued to work on the film together until just prior to Thanksgiving.”
Bohemian Rhapsody is scheduled for release on Christmas Day 2018.
