Skeet Ulrich and Marisol Nichols, who have been regulars since Season 1, are leaving the CW teen drama. Ulrich plays Jughead Jones’ (Cole Sprouse) father F.P. Jones and Nichols plays Hermione Lodge the mother of Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes).

Ulrich took to Instagram to comment about his departure, “I can’t even begin to thank you all for the unwavering support and love!! It is remarkable and deeply appreciated. I may be leaving Riverdale but my experience over the last four years will never leave my heart. A very special thanks to @writerras for giving me this opportunity.”

Ulrich’s next television appearance will be in the sci-fi feature BIOS with Tom Hanks and in the new Quibi series #FreeRayShawn. Nichols is set to appear in the horror Spiral with Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Rock.

Fans, co-stars and friends of actor Luke Perry sent thoughts and prayers to his family after he passed away at the age 52. The star of beloved TV shows Riverdale and Beverly Hills, 90210 died after suffering a stroke at his home.

Perry started acting in the early ‘80s, but got his big break almost a decade later when he was cast as brooding loner Dylan McKay in popular teen series Beverly Hills, 90210. Younger audience knows him as Archie’s dad, Fred Andrews, on CW’s hit show Riverdale.

This show shut down production after the news of Perry’s sudden passing broke everyone’s heart. Executives producers of Riverdale announced they would temporarily stop working on the upcoming season in tribute to Perry.

“Luke was everything you would hope he would be: an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all. A father figure and mentor to the show’s young cast, Luke was incredibly generous, and he infused the set with love and kindness,” read their joint statement.

Many of Hollywood’s biggest stars, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Molly Ringwald and Joss Whedon, tweeted their condolences to actor’s family. Perry’s rep said they appreciate the outpouring of support and prayers they received from every corner of the world, but respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning.

“These shows provide a strong foundation for our multiplatform programming strategy, and we look forward to building on this with even more returning and new shows as we approach the May upfront,” explained Pedowitz.

The CW recently expanded their primetime schedule to six nights a week, and Pedowitz described this move as unqualified success for the network, their affiliates and advertisers.

Teen Choice Awards may not be the most coveted ceremony in Hollywood, but it’s offbeat, youthful and super fun. It lived up to its reputation this weekend and handed out the surfboards to the very best of popular culture – as voted by American teens. Riverdale and The Greatest Showman dominated this year’s ceremony, taking home all the major awards.

Nick Cannon hosted the ceremony alongside internet sensation Lele Pons. The show also featured several impressive musical performances, including the ones by Bebe Rexha, Meghan Trainor and Foster the People.

The most exciting moment, however, came when the biggest names in movies, TV, music and entertainment started climbing the stage to collect their awards. Some of them are probably still wondering what they’re going to do with those giant surfboards, but it’s a huge honor nevertheless.

Riverdale was the clear winner of the night and it really gave all the other contenders run for their money. The hit CW drama only lost to itself in categories where it was nominated twice! It won the coveted award for Choice Drama TV Show and snatched another eight surfboards in other categories.

The Greatest Showman was the big winner amongst the movies, earning four of its seven nods – including Choice Drama Movie. When it comes to music, Camila Cabello and 5 Seconds of Summer led the pack, with three awards each.

After coming to fame on Man Men in the role of Sally Draper, Kiernan Shipka has been cast in Netflix’s upcoming two-season, straight to series, Riverdale spinoff, Sabrina.

With development staring at The CW in September, the broadcaster began looking for the actress who would portray the reimagined teenage witch. Sources say that The CW Warner Bros. Television’s list was extensive. However, with the move to the streaming giant and the two-season order, Shipka stood out as top choice.

“We’re all such huge fans of Kiernan’s work that when we started talking about who this new incarnation of Sabrina could be, her name was on everyone’s wish list. This is a darker, more macabre version of Sabrina, and we’re incredibly excited for people to see Kiernan make this iconic character her own,” said Riverdale executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

The spinoff reimagines Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age tale. It will focus on Sabrina’s struggle to reconcile her dual nature as half-human, half-witch.

In a recent interview with Esquire released on Wednesday, KJ Apa opened up about the late-night car crash that made headlines in September.

“That was just a one-off accident, and it was a mistake on my part,” he told the magazine. “I should have pulled over and gone to sleep instead of battling my way home. But I learned from it. It was a blessing in disguise. I came out unscathed, and I thank God that I’m OK – it could have been a lot worse.”

The Riverdale star reportedly fell asleep while driving after midnight. Fortunately the actor was unharmed, but the incident made the cast and crew start to plan about better filming conditions.

“The schedule didn’t change,” the 20-year-old actor said. “It’s still a requirement for the actors to drive to work, which is fair enough. The crew works longer than we do, and they have to drive back and forth to work every day.”

A source told ET that some Riverdale stars “routinely drive themselves from the city of Vancouver, where they reside, to the set located at least an hour away in a suburb.” While actor Luke Perry has transportation provided by production, the source reported that the show’s younger stars do not.

“It is believed these accidents are happening because the actors are too tired after working long hours to drive themselves,” the source said.

Apa told Esquire, “It puts things in perspective for actors on other shows; when you’re driving home, you’ve got to be mindful and make sure your mind’s right and that you’re not tired.”

“I was really lucky the production was there for me and helped me the whole way, which made me feel looked after,” he continued.

Currently the actor is focusing on finishing the second half of Riverdale season two. He goes to the gym every day to “maintain a pretty tight physique” because of his shirtless scenes and because “it takes a lot of stress out of stuff.”

“It’s a long season. We’re doing 22 episodes in season two, and we’re about halfway through now. It’s crazy to think that right now last year we were finished. To think that we have 11 more episodes is a lot and overwhelming,” he shared.

A new Riverdale spinoff will focus on Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

The new spinoff is in the works by CW and WB. The two are developing The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina as a witch-centric Riverdale spinoff.

Unlike the ABC sitcom which ran from 1996-2003 starring Melissa Joan Hart, The Chilling Adventures is said to be a much darker take on the character. It will be a dark coming-of-age story centering on the occult and of course, witchcraft. This adaptation will focus on Sabrina trying to reconcile her dual nature while standing against the evil forces that threaten basically everyone.

The series is being eyed for the 2018-2019 season as a companion to Riverdale. Robert Aguirre-Sacasa will serve as both executive producer and writer, alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Jon Goldwater, and Lee Toland Krieger, who is set to direct should the project move forward.
