]]>John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, announced the list of contenders and said it reflects the diverse artists and music that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honors and celebrates.
“Continuing in the true spirit of Rock & Roll, these artists have created their own sounds that have impacted generations and influenced countless others that have followed in their footsteps,” said Sykes in a press release.
In addition to Cher, known as the goddess of pop, the R&B sensation Mariah Carey, and the British rock band Oasis, the list of nominees also includes nine-time Grammy winner Mary J. Blige, rock singer Lenny Kravitz, and the late Irish singer Sinéad O’Connor.
Ozzy Osbourne received an individual nomination, after being inducted into the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame with Black Sabbath in 2006. Several previous nominees are in the running again, including A Tribe Called Quest and Dave Matthews Band
The list of inductees will be announced in April, and they’ll be honored at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2024 Induction Ceremony in Cleveland this fall.

]]>The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles this past weekend. The list of recipients also included the iconic synth-pop band Duran Duran, singer-songwriter Carly Simon, new wave duo Eurythmics and rock star Pat Benatar.
Parton’s speech was the most memorable moment of the night. She opened it by jokingly saying, “I’m a rock star now!” and reflected on her hesitation to accept this honor.
“Back when they said they were gonna put me in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I didn’t really feel like I had done enough to deserve that. And I didn’t understand at the time that it’s about more than that. But I’m just honored and so proud to be here tonight,” said Parton.
Parton also gave an explosive performance at the ceremony, with live renditions of songs “Rockin’ Years” and “Jolene”. Several inductees joined her for the star-studded performance of “Jolene”, including Pat Benatar and Eurythmics’ Annie Lennox.

]]>The musician that has sold more than 120 million albums and launched multiple No. 1 hits, was first nominated in 2011.
It was the self-proclaimed King of All Media, Howard Stern, that Bon Jovi picked as the one to deliver his induction speech. Prior to the ceremony, Bon Jovi said about the radio host, “our careers have paralleled in a lot of ways – whether it was the ups or the downs – we’ve come through everything together and we do this at this point because we love the people we work with. And the truth is nobody knows not only me but the members of the band as well as Howard.”
“I am so honored that you asked me. I am thrilled to do it,” Howard replied to the musician.
It seems that laboring on his speech all week was worthwhile as Stern’s on-stage moment was definitely the highlight of the evening eliciting laughs and cheers. Stern opened his speech with some interesting comparisons in an attempt to give an idea of really how many 130 million albums are, that is the number of albums the band has sold.
“Let me give you an idea of what the number 130 million means, and it means a lot. Now, the bubonic plague only killed 50 million people. The atom bomb only killed 225,000 people. Six-hundred-and-twenty-five–thousand people died in the Civil War. Peanuts compared to 130 million. Anybody wanna hear about the AIDS epidemic or …? But you see, even with all this talk of death and destruction, I’m making a point, and my point is that 130 million is ridiculously big. Try to look at it this way: the average amount of sperm in one ejaculation is only 100 million. Bon Jovi beat sperm, ladies and gentlemen!”
Stern finished his speech with a truly heartfelt statement saying, “I really feel blessed to know you and to have been given this honor of inducting you. And, Jon, I’m glad you asked me to do this even though I kvetch about it. I’m just glad you don’t have to sit at home throwing darts at pictures of Jann Wenner anymore. It’s over. It’s over, Jonny. The dream has been realized.”
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will air May 5 on HBO.

]]>The list of newest inductees was revealed by the Cleveland-based institution on Wednesday morning. These handful of honorees will join more that 300 previous inductees. To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of induction.
The nominees were announced in October. The hall’s fan voting – a clear indication of who the public most wants to see join as honorees – closely matched the voting of the Rock Hall’s voting membership, that consists of more than 900 music critics, record executives, managers and other industry insiders.
Topping the fan voting was Bon Jovi with 1.16 million votes followed by the Moody Blues with 947,000 votes, Dire Straits and the Cars each with 613,000 and 552,000 votes respectively.
This was Simone’s first year on the nominee list. Subject of the 2015 documentary, What Happened, Miss Simone? refreshed the public’s memories of the singer, songwriter and social activist’s role in the civil rights movement of the 1960s.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2018 Inductions, presented by Klipsch Audio, will be held at Public Auditorium in Cleveland on April 14, 2018.
